WEEKLY MESSAGE FROM FATHER TOM

We have arrived at the last month of the strangest year in most of our lives. Li le, if anything, has been normal this year. It is already certain that Christmas won’t be normal either. And yet, God intervenes in the normal, and the unusual, to make them wondrous. Shepherds were grazing their sheep that night. That was normal at some mes of the year, unusual at others. Whichever it was in this case, God made it won-drous when the angel appeared and told them, unto you is born a Savior. Our children will not be preparing for many of the things they normally do in December. We tried to make this as special a Christmas as we can. But there were no school par es, no caroling, no visit to nursing homes or assisted living facili es where the children played bingo and made new friends. Family celebra ons may or may not take place, with family members unable to travel this year. But the most important gi , the most special event will be the same; unto you is born a Savior.

So, as we celebrate the birth of Christ this Christmas, let joy be born in our hearts not just this Christmas day, but the whole year; not just the whole year, but our whole lives. Let us inspire this world, that can seem so lost in darkness, with the light of Christ in the light of our joy. If you are returning to Church from a long absence, or even a short one, let the joy of this celebra on fill you. Let the light of Christ into your lives and into your hearts that your hearts may grow this day and return to the joy of celebra ng the Eucharist today and every week of the year.

My thanks to all of you who have been faithful parishioners, for all you do even through the tough mes. You are all a wonderful gi to this Corpus Chris Parish. It is with humble joy that we give thanks for the honor of serving as your Pastor and Associate Pastors. Thank you for all your support and prayers, especially during my health problems this year. This Christmas, we will be more spread out and many of you will be live streaming Mass. To keep socially distanced, we are taking reserva ons for both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to avoid having to turn people away. I hate the thought of limi ng it. I wish we could just open the doors and let everyone in but that’s not a good thing to do right now. We have to do everything we can to ensure the health and safety of our parishioners.

With all the changes and possible disappointments, God will not disappoint. Amid all the changes, our assurance, confidence, joy and peace will not change. They are found in God’s message, unto you is born a Savior.

C D A Primera Lectura: Tan pronto como el rey David se instaló en su palacio y el Señor le concedió descansar de todos los enemigos que lo rodeaban, el rey dijo al profeta Natán: “¿Te has dado

cuenta de que yo vivo en una mansión de cedro, mientras el arca de Dios sigue alojada en una enda de campaña?”

Natán le respondió: “Anda y haz todo lo que te dicte el corazón, porque el Señor

está con go”. Aquella misma noche habló el Señor a Natán y le dijo: “Ve y dile a mi siervo David que el Señor le manda decir esto: ‘¿Piensas que vas a ser tú el que me

construya una casa, para que yo habite en ella? Yo te saqué de los apriscos y de

andar tras las ovejas, para que fueras el jefe de mi pueblo, Israel. Yo estaré con go

en todo lo que emprendas, acabaré con tus enemigos y te haré tan famoso como

los hombres más famosos de la erra. Le asignaré un lugar a mi pueblo, Israel; lo plantaré allí para que habite en su propia

erra. Vivirá tranquilo y sus enemigos ya no lo oprimirán más, como lo han venido

haciendo desde los empos en que establecí jueces para gobernar a mi pueblo, Israel. Y a , David, te haré

descansar de todos tus enemigos. Además, yo, el Señor, te hago saber que

te daré una dinas a; y cuando tus días se hayan cumplido y descanses para siempre

Segunda Lectura: Hermanos: A aquel que puede darles

fuerzas para cumplir el Evangelio que yo he proclamado, predicando a Cristo,

En aquel empo, el ángel Gabriel fue enviado por Dios a una ciudad de Galilea, llamada Nazaret, a una virgen desposada

ángel: “¿Cómo podrá ser esto, puesto que yo permanezco virgen?” El ángel le

contestó: “El Espíritu Santo descenderá sobre y el poder del Al simo te cubrirá

con su sombra. Por eso, el Santo, que va a nacer de , será llamado Hijo de Dios. Ahí enes a tu parienta Isabel, que a

pesar de su vejez, ha concebido un hijo y ya va en el sexto mes la que llamaban estéril, porque no hay nada imposible

para Dios”. María contestó: “Yo soy la esclava del Señor; cúmplase

en mí lo que me has dicho”. Y el ángel se re ró de su presencia.

I will fix a place for my people Israel; I will plant them so that they may dwell in

their place without further disturbance. Neither shall the wicked con nue to afflict

them as they did of old, since the me I first appointed judges over my people Israel. I will give you rest from all your enemies. The LORD also reveals to you that he will establish a house for you. And when your

me comes and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your heir a er you, sprung from your loins, and I will make his

kingdom firm. I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. Your house and your kingdom shall endure forever

before me; your throne shall stand firm forever.'”

eternal God, made known to all na ons to bring about the obedience of faith, to the

only wise God, through Jesus Christ be glory forever and ever. Amen.

Gospel: The angel Gabriel was sent from God to a

town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin’s name was

Mary. And coming to her, he said, “Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.” But she was

greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of gree ng this might be. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be

afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. “Behold, you will conceive in your

womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be

called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of

Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” But Mary said to the angel,

“How can this be, since I have no rela ons with a man?” And the angel said to her in reply, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you,

and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be

born will be called holy, the Son of God. And behold, Elizabeth, your rela ve, has

also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren; for nothing will be impossible for

God.” Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done

to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.

MENSAJE SEMANAL DEL PADRE TOM Hemos llegado al úl mo mes del año más extraño de la mayor parte de nuestras vidas. Poco, si acaso, ha sido normal este año. Ya es seguro que la Navidad tampoco será normal. Y, sin embargo, Dios interviene en lo normal y lo inusual para hacerlos maravillosos. Los pastores pastoreaban a sus ovejas por la noche. Eso era normal en algunas épocas del año, inusual en otras. Sea lo que sea en este caso, Dios lo hizo maravilloso cuando el ángel apareció y les dijo, te ha nacido un Salvador. Nuestros niños no se estarán preparando para muchas de las cosas que hacen normalmente en diciembre. Intentamos que esta Navidad fuera lo más especial posible. Pero no hubo fiestas escolares, ni villancicos, ni visitas a hogares de ancianos o instalaciones de vida asis da donde los niños jugaban al bingo y hacían nuevos amigos. Las celebraciones familiares pueden tener lugar o no, y los miembros de la familia no pueden viajar este año. Pero el regalo más importante, el evento más especial será el mismo; te ha nacido un Salvador. Entonces, al celebrar el nacimiento de Cristo en esta Navidad, que el gozo nazca en nuestros corazones no solo este día de Navidad, sino todo el año; no solo todo el año, sino toda nuestra vida. Inspiremos este mundo, que puede parecer tan perdido en las nieblas, con la luz de Cristo a la luz de nuestro gozo. Si regresa a la Iglesia hoy después de una ausencia prolongada, o incluso breve, deje que la alegría de esta celebración lo llene. Dejen que la luz de Cristo entre en sus vidas y en sus corazones para que sus corazones crezcan este día y regresen a la alegría de celebrar la Eucaris a hoy y todas las semanas del año. Mi agradecimiento a todos ustedes que han sido fieles feligreses, por todo lo que hacen incluso en los empos di ciles. Todos ustedes son un regalo maravilloso para esta parroquia de Corpus Chris . Es con humilde alegría que damos gracias por el honor de servir como su Pastor y Pastores Asociados. Gracias por todo su apoyo y oraciones, especialmente durante mis problemas de salud este año. Esta Navidad, estaremos más dispersos y muchos de ustedes estarán transmi endo la misa en vivo. Para mantenernos distanciados socialmente, estamos tomando reservaciones tanto para la víspera de Navidad como para el día de Navidad para evitar tener que rechazar a la gente. Me entristece. Odio la idea de limitarlo. Deseo que nosotros podría simplemente abrir las puertas y dejar entrar a todos, pero eso no es bueno en este momento. Tenemos que hacer todo lo posible para garan zar la salud y seguridad de nuestros feligreses. Con todos los cambios y posibles decepciones, Dios no defraudará. E D E El rey David deseaba que el Arca de

Dios tuviera un hogar más permanente. David podría haberse imaginado algo así como el palacio de cedro donde residía. Dios tenía

en mente algo más: un trono donde los descendientes de David

gobernarían para siempre, un reino donde judíos y gen les serían bien

recibidos por igual. La ac tud devota de María llevó a un mensaje aún

más inquietante. Concebiría y daría a luz un hijo a pesar de que aún no estaba casada. “¿Cómo podrá ser

esto?”, preguntó María. “El Espíritu Santo descenderá sobre ”, le contestó el Ángel (Lucas 1:35).

La aceptación de María de este di cil desa o marcó el comienzo de esta, la era final del Reino de Dios. Lo que antes era un secreto conocido solo por el pueblo elegido como el Rey David y sus descendientes ahora

debe quedar claro a todos para que, como escribió San Pablo a los romanos, podamos llegar a la

“obediencia de la fe”, “en cumplimiento del designio eterno

de Dios” (Romanos 16:26).
