Transcript of Oz Fair Trade Volunteer Handbook
Welcome,andthankyou!
I am absolutely thrilled that you are interested in joining Oz Fair Trade as a way to help the world’s
poorest people!
In early 2013, I started Oz Fair Trade with a single wish: to help the world’s poorest by providing a
platform for their beautiful products. I believed that the world’s trade system is flawed; that unfair
trade practices contribute to the poverty cycle; and that we as consumers have the power to make
things right.
Oz Fair Trade has been warmly welcomed by not only Australians but also consumers from Germany,
United Kingdom, New Zealand, America, etc. The world is ready for a bigger fair trade market.
Australia is ready.
Oz Fair Trade is still at the start‐up stage, and it needs as much help as possible to grow. So far, it is a
one‐woman show. Without your help, Oz Fair Trade can only grow at baby steps. With your help,
more Australians can know about the power of fair trade, and more families in the world’s poorest
regions can benefit from fair trade.
I warmly welcome you on board!
Yours truly,
Qinnie Wang
Founder / Director
Introduction
Welcome to Oz Fair Trade! We rely on volunteers like you to help spread the word, and help us
achieve our mission of making the world a fair place. We hope that your work here will be both
fulfilling and rewarding.
This handbook was prepared to give you some essential information about us. Thank you for giving
your time and talents to help others.
AboutOzFairTrade
MissionOur mission is to fight poverty through fair trade. Consumers welcome ethical products, but fair
trade currently accounts for only 1% of global trade, and only 50% of Australians know about fair
trade. We believe that if we can give consumers easier access to ethical alternatives, then more
people will make the switch, and more struggling families will benefit as a result.
Organisationalstructure
To‐date, Oz Fair Trade has been a one woman show. Qinnie Wang is the founder, designer,
marketer, photographer, accountant, customer service manager, product manager etc. Qinnie also
has a full time job as an actuary.
Location
To‐date, Oz Fair Trade has been operating out of Qinnie’s home in Canberra. It allows Qinnie to
reduce storage cost to zero and hence spend money where it is most needed.
Oz Fair Trade is an online based store, because it is the cheapest and most flexible way for Qinnie to
manage it alongside her full time job. Qinnie also participates at some weekend markets and
festivals, and would greatly appreciate help in this area as her time is limited.
VolunteeringatOzFairTrade
Oz Fair Trade is a registered charity since October 2013. It does not rely on any government funding
or public donation, therefore places great value on volunteers who contribute their time, specialist
skills, knowledge and ideas. To this end, Oz Fair Trade accepts and encourages the involvement of
volunteers at all levels of the start‐up.
You will play a critical role in helping to accomplish our mission. Without your help, Oz Fair Trade will
only sell small quantities of goods, hence providing limited income to those most in need. With your
help, we can place bigger orders and make a greater positive impact.
You will be given meaningful assignments, and you will always be treated as equal co‐workers. Your
opinions will be deeply valued, and your time will be worth spent. This is a rare opportunity to be
involved in something meaningful and exciting!
