Oyate TrailWhere Cultures MeetThe concept of a scenic route to the Black Hills

The Oyate Trail of today turns off I-29 atVermillion and heads west on Highways 50 and18 to Edgemont near the Wyoming border.Along the way, travellers are treated to a surprisingarray of diverse geography, from farmland toranchland, past the Badlands to the foothills ofthe Black Hills themselves.

For anyone who has ever felt that there is noth-ing between Sioux Falls and Rapid City except sixhours, this 388 mile stretch of highway offers aunique alternative to interstate travel, with culturaland historical opportunities representing both theLakota Sioux Indian and European Immigrants.
