This course takes you through a 2-day learning experience. Initially the tutor leads the group through formal teaching theories, principles and teaching tools. Delegates practise 1-2-1 teaching and running small a group tutorial, building confidence and applying learning before working as part of a team to prepare and deliver a large group teaching session. The different approaches required for each of these situations explored in depth.

Designed to be a stand-alone learning experience in its own right, or to complement our other Medical Teach the Teacher courses, this interactive distance learning course comprises a series of bite-sized online modules to be undertaken at a time which suits you. Totalling 3 hours in all, there are videos to watch and critique, written articles to read and practical exercises which guide you to plan and create a training experience for others as you learn yourself.

On this one day course, we focus on the leadership and management of people. This course is for doctors who want explore leadership and management in more depth. The third day, delivered by a practising NHS Consultant, concentrates on understanding the history, structure and finance of the NHS.

Consultant Interview CourseOur one-day training course is ideal for senior doctors preparing to undertake a consultant interview. The value of training for interview with other consultant colleagues, (both our course tutor and other delegates), cannot be underestimated. Supported by our 182 page course guide book, we use a combination of short presentations, interactive group discussions, NHS hot topics workshop and a video recorded mock AAC panel interview to help you develop the essential information and strategies which you need for interview success.
ST & CT Medical Interview CourseDuring this one day course an experienced NHS Consultant will teach you the important interview skills and techniques to use in your ST/CT interview. Supported by our 160 page course guide book you will explore NHS hot topics, learn how to construct answers to common interview questions you are likely to face in the current OSCE format and then have the opportunity to practise in a video recorded mock interview with personal feedback tailored to your needs. Effective preparation is essential to standing out and to become the successful interview candidate.

In their document Quality Assurance of Medical Appraisers (2014), the NHS England’s Revalidation Support Team emphasise that all medical appraisers “should demonstrate the same level of core competencies, so training programmes should be based on a strong core of material”. To this end, our 2-day Course for New Medical Appraisers to equip doctors with the skills defined for this role is based directly upon the NHS RST’s quality assurance guidance.

Medical appraisers are required to undertake continued professional development in this area, keeping up to date, enhancing skills and calibrating practise with other appraisers. We take an interactive approach to facilitate learning though structured review and the sharing of case studies. Small group practise sessions in dealing with challenging scenarios lead to the development of a personal action plan.
The GMC’s revalidation requirements for doctors are dependent upon sufficient numbers of medical appraisers being trained to a high and consistent standard in order to ensure a robust, effective process. At Oxford Medical, we run two separate courses: one for doctors who already have experience of working as an Appraiser and one for doctors taking their first steps in performing this role. Small group sizes provide delegates with individual focus from our experienced facilitators to give you the best possible training.
