The Suzhou River is the mother river of Shanghai. It is the successful example in dealing with the pollution （污染） by Shanghai Government （市政府） . Now the Suzhou River is clean. In the river, there are many fish now. But the river was dirty and smelly in the past. Beside the river there is a beautiful park. There are many tall buildings on both sides of the river. You can feel the fresh air and the sweet smelling grass there. Every year the dragon boat race（龙舟赛） is held on the Suzhou River. In the past there was no fish in the river. There was no bird there. Many small boats were on the river. Beside the river, there were many factories giving out wastes （废水） which made the river dirty. On both sides of the river, there were lots of poor people and old houses. The Suzhou River has changed a lot. It becomes a beautiful sightseeing （观光） place in Shanghai.
