VISITING RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS 2022 - 2023

The Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies promotes excellence in the study of Islam and Muslim societies. Applications are invited for Visiting Research Fellowships tenable at the Centre for the academic year commencing October 2022.

There Visiting Research FeUowships, open to citizens of countries in Asia or Africa, are intended to enoourage interaction among academics from different traditions oflearning. Preference will be given tO those scudying classical Islamic sciences, although other areas in the humanities and social sciences will be considered.

Applicants should normally be at the posrdoctoral level or equivalenc.

The Visiting Research Fellowship carries a stipend of £4000, intended as a supplementary award, which may behdd in conjunction with other research grants, stipends, or sabbatical salaries. Visiting Research Fellows will be provided with an office space, membership of the Common Room including use of the Centre's dining facilities, and assistance with finding residential accommodation.

Visiting Research Fellows are expected to devote their time to research and writing and to participate in the Centre's academic activities.

Two Visiting Fellowships are offered to support Iesearch in any area of the arts, humanities or social sciences that has relevance to the study of Islam or the Muslim world, particula rly anthropology, economics, geography, h istory, international relations, law, literature, philosophy, politics, relig~on, and sociology.

Applicants would normally be established academics but scholars at the postdoctoral level are also eligible.

The Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies was established in 1985 co

Centre provides a meeting point for the Wcscern and Islamic worlds

of learning. At Oxford, it concribu1es co the mulri-disciplinary and

cross-disciplinary srudy of rhe Islamic world. Beyond Oxford, its role is
