ID Tags & Check Claims Tags and claim checks for the identification of entries will be furnished when the exhibit items are delivered. Claim checks must be presented before articles will be returned at the close of the Fair Tuesday, October 17, 2017 and Wednesday, October 18, 2017, 9 A.M. – 5 P.M. Display Entries selected for exhibit must remain on display for the duration of the Fair. NO EXCEPTIONS All articles accepted will be judged; as many as possible will be displayed.

ELIGIBILITY

Level of Eligibility An Amateur is an exhibitor who has not received remuneration over and above the monetary outlay required to produce the article exhibited. A Professional is an exhibitor who has received remuneration over and above the monetary outlay required to produce the article and can only enter into specified classes. Individuals/Organizations Entries accepted from INDIVIDUALS only. Organizations may enter Table Setting Divisions, Quilts & Comforters, and Trim-A-Tree. Ineligible Exhibitors Individuals/Firms who earn their primary source of income from activities covered by the division/classes of this section are ineligible to enter. Division Selection Please be sure to enter in the correct division based on your honest assessment of your experience. Completion of Projects All articles entered must be the handiwork of exhibitor & completed within one year of the opening date of the Fair (October 2016 to current). If, in the opinion of management, an article has been previously entered, the right is reserved to withhold the item from judging and display. Disqualification The Big Fresno Fair reserves the right to exclude any entry that is deemed not to be in the best interest of the Fair, for exhibition. The Big Fresno Fair reserves the right to disqualify Any exhibitor who does not conduct him or herself in a manner congruent with the temper, character and purpose of The Big Fresno Fair. In the case of disqualification by the Fresno Fair, its agents, or representatives, there will be no entry fee refunds. All monetary awards, ribbons and trophies will be subject to forfeiture. Management reserves the right to limit the number of entries exhibited. (Examples of reasons for disqualification: Item is objectionable; soiled; requires more space than can be given; in conflict with exhibit requirements.) NO EXCEPTIONS

JUDGING

Judging System Except where specified, the American System of Judging will be used. Judges Discretion Judges are contracted and act as agents of The 21st District Agricultural Association, Big Fresno Fair. These individuals facilitate the juried exhibition. They retain the authority to, at their own discretion, move items to more appropriate divisions and/or classes. The judges also may disqualify any exhibit that is not a true representation of the category description in which it was entered. Placings The judges shall award first, second, or third place according to merit; and if without merit, the judges will not give an award. This rule applies whether there are one or more entries in

the class. Just because there is only one entry in that division, this does not automatically make it a 1st place winner. Proof of Placement Judge's book will only be used as evidence for payment of cash awards. Ribbons and tags are not accepted. Sweepstakes Awards Sweepstakes will be awarded in accordance with State Rule IV7. Sweepstake Cash Awards Offered All Divisions

Senior Artists 60 Years & Over The oldest person to obtain a first place Blue Ribbon will receive $15.00 and a plaque. To compete for this special award, be sure to show date of birth on the entry form. Checks Award checks will be available after the close of the fair (Tuesday, October 17, 2017/Wednesday, October 18, 2017). Non-Cash Awards Best of Show and People’s Choice Ribbons do not carry cash awards. Non-Competitive Entries Items for display only will not be accepted for exhibit except where specified. Results Results will not be given over the phone before opening of the Fair.

LIABILITY

Release of Liability The Big Fresno Fair will take every precaution possible for the safety and security of all entries; however, the fair assumes no responsibility, and cannot be held accountable for loss or damage. Upon this condition only, are entries accepted. If he or she should so desire, the entrant may obtain insurance for any item. The Big Fresno Fair does not assume any responsibility for artwork not picked up on the scheduled release dates. Publicity The Big Fresno Fair reserves the right to use any print or piece exhibited, for publicity purposes.

Rules for Ball & Kerr Contest

How to Enter To enter the Jarden Home Brands competition, exhibitors MUST state “Ball” or “Kerr” after each entry on the entry form and jar and lid must correspond.

Jars All Entries must be preserved in Ball* Jars sealed with Ball* Lids and Bands, or Ball* Collection Elite@ Jars sealed with Collection Elite@ Lids and Bands, or preserved in Kerr* Jars sealed with Kerr* Lids and Bands.

Canning Time Frame All home canned foods must have been prepared within a one year period prior to judging date – after October 2016.

Entry Consistency An entry consists of two jars, which must both be Ball or Kerr jars, to qualify. One is open for judging, the other is used for display. Please fill jar no more than ¼” from top.

Soft Spread Requirements Soft Spread entries must be prepared using Ball* Pectin: Classic, Low or No-sugar, Needed or Liquid.

Winners Judges will select the two best entries submitted by an adult in Fruit, Vegetable, and Pickle & Soft Spread, categories canned in Ball Jars sealed in Ball Bands with Dome Lids or Ball Collection Elite Decorative Bands with Dome Lids, or canned in Kerr Jars sealed with Kerr Bands with Self-Sealing Lids or Ball Collection Elite Decorative Bands with Dome Lids.

Sealing Make sure all jars are properly sealed. Unsealed jars will be disqualified.

RULES FOR HANDSPUN/HANDWOVEN

Any persons placing first in a class 3 times or more at the Big Fresno Fair should indicate “MASTERS” on that sections entry.

1. Fibers used for these yarns must be spun from wool, mohair, angora, alpaca/llama, plant/baste fiber or a combination of these fibers

2. Fibers/yarns may have been dyed with natural or chemical dyes. If using natural dyes the Mordant should be specified. Dyed yarn must have been dyed by exhibitor in Division 920 Class 15, 16, 17 and 18. Note the type of dye used.

3. Note if spun in grease and not yet washed. 4. Be as specific as possible as to intended use. 5. Skeins must be a minimum of 25 yards long, wrapped

in 1 ½ to 2 yard skeins and tied in 4 (four) places preferable with figure eight ties...

Rules

Table Size All tables are furnished by the Fair and are of uniform Size, 40’’ x 60’’ rectangle. Total Tables Allowed First ten entries will be determined by postmark on entry form. NO EXCEPTIONS. Place Settings Tables are to be set for four diners, except where designated for two diners. Exhibitors are to use dishes for the main course & bread and butter or salad plates, silverware and glasses for all courses as stated in Exhibitors menu. Dessert plates are optional. No paper products allowed, including napkins, plates or cups. Menu & Information Card Menu with theme must be displayed on table. Please show the company & pattern name of china, crystal and silver used, and any other information which might be of interest to the viewer. This information may be submitted on a card neatly lettered or typed. Limitations Centerpieces are not to be over 24 inches tall. Accessories like mannequins, arches, radios, etc., are not allowed. Unable to Participate If exhibitor is unable to set up a table setting, the Home Arts office MUST be notified 48 hours in advance.

Additional Entries If all tables are not assigned, additional entries will be invited from exhibitors in the order in which the original entries were received. Decorations Use artificial (not fresh) flowers only. NO paper products may be used including napkins, plates or cups. Chairs (provided by exhibitor) may be used to coordinate with number of table settings. Etiquette Guidelines While the writings of Emily Post, Amy Vanderbilt and Other known etiquette authorities will be used as guidelines; customs typical of entertaining in the west will be accepted. Judging The table settings are judged on the correct placement of dishes, silverware, napkins, glasses and cups. The setting is to be coordinated with menu. The menu is judged on the use of the food pyramid and color, flavor and texture of food. Entries are also judged on attractiveness and originality.

TRIM-A-TREE

For the category of Trim-A-Tree, space dictates that only 10 entries will be accepted for the 2017 Big Fresno Fair. Entry Forms are accepted in the order of their arrival. For this reason and because of the popularity of the Division, it is important to submit registration forms in a timely manner. You may provide your own tree. Maximum size is 7 feet. If you need a tree, please specify a size. Tree sizes available are 4 to 7 feet in height. A larger tree, provided by exhibitor, can be used with prior approval from the Home Arts Supervisor. Colored tree (provided by exhibitor) is acceptable.

What is more welcoming than a beautiful decorated front door or a front door decorated for the holidays? Get creative and show off your skill and creative ability when you decorate a front door we have for you at the fair. Everyone comes to the fair to see the gorgeous Christmas trees or interesting table settings, why not include a “decorated front door?”
