Owner/Operational Manual
This is an appendix to technical Manual 400038-‐UTG-‐B-‐0708.
This equipment has been modified from its original configuration. The factory Warranty is void. All Warranty claims will be processed through: Bristow’s Heating and Cooling 102 S. John F. Kennedy Ave Keytesville, MO 65261 Warranty See attached Warranty information for complete details. An overview of the Warranty is one year parts only. The Heat Exchanger is NOT covered if it fails due to freezing. A flow switch is installed on the system to prevent this. If the heat exchanger fails due to freezing, it is because the system was left in an area where the ambient temperature is below freezing. This is neglect and will not be covered under Warranty. The system must be winterized according to instructions to prevent freezing. Description The Bristow Water Cooler is designed to cool non-‐potable water approximately 15 to 20 degrees. The system was engineered to provide continuous cooling operation to lower incoming water temperature. The unit is designed as a system, and will be only sold as a complete system. Any changes or deviations from the recommended accessories will result in decreased unit performance. Features Condenser
• Quality Condenser Coils-‐The Coil is constructed of aluminum micro-‐channel tubing and enhanced aluminum fins for increased efficiency and corrosion protection.
• Protected Compressor-‐The compressor is internally protected against high pressure and temperature. This is accomplished by the simultaneous operation of high pressure relief valve and a temperature sensor which protects the compressor if undesirable operating conditions occur. A liquid line filter –drier further protects the compressor.
• Durable Finish-‐The cabinet is made of pre-‐painted steel. The pre-‐treated galvanized steel provides a better paint to steel bond, which resists corrosion and rust creep. Special primer formulas and matted-‐texture finish insure less fading when exposed to sunlight.
• Lower Installed Cost-‐ Installation time and cost are reduced to easy power and hose connections. The system is pre-‐charged for the required Freon level. The small base dimension means less space is required on the ground or roof.
• Top Discharge-‐The warm air from the top mounted fan is blown up away from the structure and any landscaping. This allows compact location on multi-‐unit applications.
• Low Operation Sound Level-‐The upward air flow carries the normal operating noise away from the living area. The rigid top panel effectively isolates any motor sound. Isolator mounted
compressor and the rippled fins of the condenser coil muffle the normal fan motor and compressor operating sounds.
• Low Maintenance-‐Long life permanently lubricated motor-‐bearings need no annual servicing. • Easy service access-‐Fully exposed refrigerant connections, and a single panel covering the
electrical controls makes for easy servicing of the unit. • Secured service valves-‐Secured re-‐usable service valves are provided on both the liquid and
vapor sweat connections for ease of evacuating and charging. • U.L. and C.U.L. listed-‐ approved for outdoor application (Certified in accordance with the
Unitary Small Equipment certification program, which is based on ARI Standard 210/240. Heat Exchanger
• The heat exchanger incorporates the latest in refrigerant heat exchanger technology. The compact size and the high level of heat exchange efficiency are achieved by the unique heat exchange tube geometry.
• The enhanced surface of the copper tube provides surface extension of 3.7 times that of smooth tubing. The conical, co-‐axial design of the water coils and the internal rifling ensures that water turbulence is maintained even at low water flow rates.
• On the refrigerant side, the close tolerances between the water coils and the condenser shell, result in the extraordinary heat exchange performance during condenser duty on the cooling cycle. As they are designed to also suit reversible applications, the unique design provides a high level of performance when the heat exchanger is used as a liquid chiller.
• Close approach temperature between the Refrigerant Condensing Temperature and the Leaving Water Temperature reduces the volume of condenser water to be circulated. Reduces the size of condenser water pipes and circulating pumps.
• Efficient Liquid Refrigerant Sub Cooling as the leaving liquid is sub-‐cooled by the entering water due to the counter-‐flow design enhancing system efficiency.
• Drainable water tubes due to the spiral design allows easy draining of the water. • NO oil trapping as a result of the close tolerances in the refrigerant path. • Improves heat pump performance with high BTU output at low water temperatures. • Low water side pressure drops reduces pump size and operating cost • Continuous water coils with no internal joints has less chance of leaks • Compact size and convenient cylindrical shape is easy to insulate • Reliable operation, as all heat exchangers are tested to 660 psi after manufacture. • UL listed. Complies with Australian Standard 2971-‐1987 Serially Produced Pressure Vessels.
Controls
• The temperature control is a microprocessor-‐based controller that is designed to provide on/off control for refrigeration applications.
• With its wide temperature range, one stage capability, selectable heating/cooling modes and multi-‐voltage input, the controller is one of the most versatile temperature controls available.
• Its Digital Display makes the controller simple to install and set up. The standard digital display and keypad allow the user to adjust the temperature settings with 1 degree resolution. Set-‐
point temperature, differential and mode of operation can all be selected using the keypad and display.
• When not in the programming mode. The display gives a constant readout of the sensor temperature. Annunciates on the liquid crystal display also indicate when the relay is energized.
• The controller is equipped with diagnostic programs that check for hardware, software, or system problems and display different error codes to indicate where the trouble is.
• The controller also has a keypad lockout switch to prevent tampering with the control settings by unauthorized personnel. The switch, which is located inside the enclosure, can be used to disable the keypad function.
Pump
• Quiet, maintenance-‐free performance • Stainless steel construction, corrosion resistant • Low Energy Consumption • Built in motor protection for long life • UL/CSA listed • Grunfos circulators provide extremely quiet performance for various domestic water systems.
The automatic resetting thermal impedance protection assures integrated motor protection, low maintenance and longer life.
• Grundfos circulators are reliable and durable System
• This system will provide a 15 to 20 degree temperature drop from incoming water temperature and will maintain this temperature during continuous use of 4 gallons per minute or less.
• The temperature control is factory set at 37 degrees Fahrenheit. The unit will cycle on when water temperature reaches 38 degrees Fahrenheit. As long as entering water temperature is below 54 degrees Fahrenheit, the system will maintain water temperature below 40 degrees Fahrenheit exiting the tank to the spray nozzle at 4 gallons per minute or less.
• The system is very economical due to the fact that it only operates when in use. It takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes to cool the tank to operating temperature from 65 degrees.
• The system will operate at a wide temperature range of ambient temperature, from 40 degrees to 95 degrees outside air temperature.
• The system has various built in system protection safeties. A flow switch is integrated into the control circuit which will shut down the system if the water stops flowing through the heat exchanger to minimize equipment damage.
• The system has a head pressure control kit installed so that it can be operated at lower ambient temperatures. The condenser fan will cycle on and off independently of the compressor to maintain proper system pressures to ensure maximum cooling efficiency.
• A factory hard start kit is factory installed to ease compressor startup during high head conditions. This kit includes a start/run capacitor to maximize system efficiency.
• Although this is a specialized piece of equipment, it uses standard “off the shelf” parts that are readily available to ensure ease of service. Most residential HVAC service companies will be able to completely service this equipment
• Winterization is easy and convenient with the quick connect hose connections, and a piping arrangement that minimizes effort when draining the system.
