The Future of Your New Project

For your lifetime, you should never have to worry about the structural soundness of the wood. Nothing ever must be done to retain its resistance to termites and fungal decay. However, the wood’s appearance will change.

Rain, moisture, and atmospheric conditions can take a toll. As wood weathers, it may check (crack) or warp. You can minimize this by periodic application – every year or two – of a surface water repellent.

Ultraviolet rays of the sun will cause the wood eventually to turn a driftwood gray color. If you wish to counteract this, or if you just want your project to complement the color of your home, you can apply a paint or stain to Wolmanized® wood. For best results, make sure the wood is dry before coating.

Over time, your project may become dingy-looking or it may become discolored by dirt, mildew, and algae. To regain a fresher appearance, clean your wood with a wood brightener. Then apply a water repellent or a stain that contains water repellent.

Whenever using water repellent, stain, paint, or deck brightener, be sure to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Your new addition should prove to be a very worthwhile investment – one that adds to your enjoyment of your home and also adds to the home’s value.

To enhance that value, we used Wolmanized® wood in construction. It is protected from termite damage and fungal decay by a proven wood preservative, and backed by the Good Housekeeping Seal.

Wolmanized® Residential Outdoor® WoodWith a brand name that dates back nearly a century and a record respected throughout the Americas, Wolmanized® Outdoor® wood has been used in countless residential, commercial, and industrial projects. It has led the wood preservation industry in the introduction of many innovations that have become standard practice.

Wolmanized® Outdoor® wood is protected by copper azole preservative and combines the natural beauty of real wood with a limited warranty against termite damage and fungal decay.

Joining the family of Wolmanized® wood products is Wolmanized EraWood™, which also carries the Good Housekeeping Seal and NAHB Research Center National Green Building Certification.

Intended for above-ground applications only, its resistance to termites and fungi comes from a pioneering carbon-based preservative which provides unique features: the wood can be painted or stained without discoloration from

It can be painted or stained; it’s more economical than durable grades of redwood and cedar or artifi-cial wood; and it’s made from a renewable resource.

It carries the widely admired Good Housekeeping Seal with its two-year promise, and can contribute points toward a home’s National Green Building Certification by the NAHB Research Center. The production of Wolmanized® Outdoor® wood is monitored by independent, accredited inspection agencies.

Wolmanized EraWood™ Lumberpreservative, its corrosivity is similar to that of untreated wood so contact with aluminum does not lead to accelerated metal corrosion; and it is no more abrasive to woodworking tools than untreated wood.

Wolmanized EraWood™ lumber has been listed in the GreenSpec® directory of environmentally preferable products. The treatment is also listed in standards of the American Wood Protection Association.

In this warranty, the term “Wolmanized® Wood” refers to both Wolmanized® Residential Outdoor® Wood (treated with our Wolman® E copper azole preservative) and Wolmanized EraWoodTM Lumber (treated with our Wolman® AG preservative).

DurationThe warranty period begins on the date you purchase (or your contractor purchases) the Wolmanized® Wood. This warranty lasts for as long as you own the property on which the wood is used. Coverage terminates when you sell or transfer the property on which the structure is built.

Requirements for CoverageAll of the following conditions must be met for your wood to be covered under this warranty:

1. The wood must be Wolmanized® Wood. This means wood that is pressure-treated with our Wolman® E or Wolman® AG preservative chemicals and references the Wolmanized® Wood brand name and website (www.wolmanizedwood.com) on the end tag that is attached to the wood.

Wolmanized® wood qualifies for NAHB Research Center National Green Building Certification, signifying compliance with specific practices of the National Green Building Standard™. It is a natural and environmentally responsible choice: it’s made from wood, a renewable resource, treatment extends the life of the wood, and the preservative used is as gentle as it can be and still be effective and long-lasting. A life cycle analysis confirms the environmental benefits of wood. Another life cycle assessment shows scientifically the environmental advantages of copper azole-treated wood over wood plastic composites.

Preserved wood extends forest resources, allowing one tree to do the work of many. In addition to enabling wood to last a long time or resist flames or mold, our brands have all of the environmental and other advantages associated with wood itself. For example, wood:

• Is a renewable resource grown on managed timberlands. Trees remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, thus reducing greenhouse gases.

• Requires less energy to produce than alternative building materials; it is made from sunlight and soil nutrients, rather than fossil fuels.

• Offers greater insulation value than alternatives.

• Is lighter in weight, and can often be installed with lighter equipment which has less environmental impact.

In addition, wood offers excellent workability with common construction skills and tools, plus it provides design flexibility and economy. Wood is generally less costly than alternative building materials and is considered easier to work with, not to mention aesthetically preferable in many applications.

A study conducted by the Consortium for Research on Renewable Industrial Materials (CORRIM) found that wood framed homes top concrete and steel in a life cycle assessment. Another study conducted by Forintek, Canada’s forest products research institute, found that structural failure was not the main reason for demolition of wood buildings and that wood buildings in the study were actually older than steel and concrete buildings demolished. A life cycle assessment shows scientifically the environmental advantages of copper azole-treated wood over wood plastic composites.

Environmentally Responsible

“After all, wood is the ultimate sustainable material. Properly harvested, trees grow, get cut down, and are replaced with more trees. Across its life cycle, no building product has lower energy consump-tion rates. Wood essentially acts as storage for carbon dioxide (even after it is made into construction mate-rial), and when recycled as fuel it creates more energy than was used in its production. Plus, people tend to like it.”
