Summit Metal Fabricators performed the fabrication portion of the contract. The work performed provided for the repair and modernization of the removable submarine covers, which are mission critical air conditioned structures that enclose submarines during maintenance and refueling/defueling availabilities. The fabrications included over 180 modules that enclose the submarine during repairs. The modular structure when assembled stands 70 feet high by 70 feet wide by 350 feet long. The system includes 6 stair towers and several brows for personnel and equipment. Energy savings was gained through the repair of the 14 inoperable existing rooftop air conditioning units, thereby heating and cooling with 100-percent make-up air. Further savings was gained by cladding submarine enclosure units with additional metal insulated panels, and refurbishing existing insulation and weatherization throughout. Work was performed in Kittery, Maine, and at our offsite facility in Epping, NH. www.SummitMetalFab.com
