Planning

• Magazine name:

R&RI chose this name as it stands for rock and roll which is the genre of my magazine. Its also simple and easy to remember. As I have took my inspiration for my magazine from Q , I also wanted to use just one single letter for the name. It also leads people to wonder what it stands for and will maybe make them want to read the magazine.

• Explanation of genre:The genre of my magazine is rock/pop. Although it will mostly feature rock bands and articles relating to the genre of rock music there will also be a hint of pop and rock combined as some artists have a hint of both in their music. I am also interested in this genre myself and that's why I wanted to base my magazine on it.

• Target audienceThe target audience of my magazine is both female and male from the age of 16 onwards. I choose this age range as my magazine will be featuring both modern and classic rock bands and people younger than 16 might not be interested in them as older people may be. Rock is also a genre that many males are interested in but by also introducing the element of pop and rock combined it may also appeal to women. Younger people tend to not enjoy rock music also and preferably enjoy more pop and RnB which is why my target audience is late teens and over.

Planning

• Initial ideas about front pageI plan to have a small square in the top left hand corner with my masthead in it which is R&R. There will be a banner running across the top of the page next to this, advertising an article inside. Underneath this banner will be the pug. My main image will be a long shot of a girl who will be promoting her new album in a interview inside my magazine. There will be a cover line somewhere around her , with a quote from this interview and then a strap line under this telling the readers that there is an interview with her that they can find inside. My front cover will be following the rule of thirds. Down the middle column will be the girls figure and then on either side there will be cover lines advertising interviews, articles and the news that they can find inside. There will be a simple colour scheme with the only colour being the colour from the image and from the masthead.

• Initial ideas about contents pageIt will also follow the rule of thirds with 3 columns containing the headings and page numbers of what is to be found in the magazine. There will be images scattered over the page with one main image again promoting the main article which is the interview with the artist that's featured on the front cover. The masthead will also appear at the top but on a smaller scale. The pug will again feature and there will also be contact details, a website address and an editors note.

• Initial ideas about double page spreadThis will be an interview with a new girl artist who is promoting her new album. There will be an article which will be split into 2 or 3 columns on one page with relatively small simple font (times new roman or Arial). Then on the other page there will be one main image of the girl, which will take up 2/3 of the page and then the interview will carry on underneath this again in columns.

Planning

• Initial ideas about photographsFor the front cover I would like a long shot of the girl artist in an unusual pose. I want her to be having eye contact with the audience as this will give my magazine a more personal feel. I also want her to be dressed in a rocker sort of style. The main photo on my contents page, I want it to be a medium close up and for it also to be a side shot of the girls face. I also would like to take some other pictures of a few boys and then for these to appear on my contents page on a smaller scare promoting an article containing news about their band/tour.
