Blessing of the Animals at HarvestFest in HillcrestSaturday, October 22

The first year our triplets celebrated Halloween, along with their big brother, I confess I dressed them up as familiar fairy tale characters: the Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf. It was pretty cute, plus I could hold it over them for years to come. As a mom, I’m beginning to realize there are not many years left for them wanting to dress up. Plastic orange pumpkins will be put in the attic. At some point, dressing up will not be cool. Even this year, I was distressed when one of my boys said he wants to be a very uncute hooded ninja with a threatening sword. My heavens! Let’s just say, thank goodness for my dogs! I can dress them up (and myself) any way I like, and there will be no complaining whatsoever. The cats, however, might be resistant since, mine at least, act more like moody teenagers. CARING FOR GOD’S CREATION“Reduce the Environmental Cost

of Shane’s Travel”

Shane Claiborne is passionate about caring for God’s creation. However, when he travels it necessitates flying, and flying emits greenhouse gas CO2 which can be harmful to the environment. Shane invites us to share in his care for planet Earth by offsetting the carbon use of his flight. This can easily be accomplished by taking positive measures in our own everyday lives. Here are some things you can do to make a difference as we await Shane’s visit to PHUMC, October 28-30.

aPark your vehicle and bike whenever possible.aCarpool to work and other activities.aChange the light bulbs in your home to the

energy efficient variety.aTurn down (or up, in warmer regions) the

temperature in your home for one week.aBuy organic, fair-trade coffee for your home.aPlant a tree.aFind your own creative way to save energy.

Celebrate this effort by going to phumc.com/carbon and reporting your personal environmental efforts. We’ll share these with Shane when he joins us in Little Rock!

~ Testimonial ~“Ringing the bell” for the past two years heralded the most meaningful Christmas seasons in the past umpteen million years for me. It was such a joy to wish “Merry Christmas” to individuals and families hurrying into Kroger for their special holiday ingredients. Each greeting produced smiles and donations that warmed my heart with the true meaning of Christ’s birth and gave me a sense of belonging to the community of PHUMC.” -Shirley Vanderslice
