DUE EVERY FORTNIGHT (every two weeks)

● Complete TWO homework activities from the table below. Year 4’s ONLY need to complete ONE activity.

● If you choose an activity in a coloured box, it is expected it’ll take you two weeks to complete it.

● Do your BEST work. Ensure you have beautiful book standards.● Remember to fill in your Reading Log and participate in Mathletics. Your

teacher will check these also.

ACTING IT OUTAct out a transaction between a customer and a sales assistant, checkout operator etc. Write a

script (play). Think carefully about the language used.

Video it or act it out in front of your class.

JUNK MAIL SHOPPINGYou have $20 to spend on your

school lunches this week. Cut out and glue in from supermarket

brochures what you would buy and what you would pack for your

lunch for 5 days.Remember to be healthy.

MONEY, MONEY, MONEYResearch and list 10 songs that have money in the lyrics or song title MONEY. Don’t forget to say

the artist and the year it was released.

GROCERY SHOPPINGGo and help do your family’s

groceries. Look at the prices and find things more expensive and

cheaper for the same type of thing, e.g. Homebrand flour $1.99 (1.5kg), Champion flour $3.69 (1.5kg). You can use www.countdown.co.nz and

sort by price if you like.

CHRISTMAS IS COMING!It’s time to start saving and buying gifts for your family. You have $100

to spend. Divide $100 by the number of people in your family. List their names. What would you

buy for each member of your family? What is the price?

WHO’S THAT?Who are the people on our

banknotes? Choose ONE of them and research what they are

famous. Why do you think they were chosen to be represented

on our currency?

DICTIONARYCreate a glossary for 10 monetary

terms. Provide examples if necessary. You can use pictures if

you like.

HOW MANY?How many 3 letter words or more

can you make from“FINANCIAL LITERACY”.

Remember you can only use a letter the same amount of times it

appears.

MONEY MAKERCreate a new NZ coin or

banknote. Illustrate the front and back. Explain why you

chose the person, bird, animal, plant, pattern, value etc.

dollar. a) Research what 10 other countries call their currency. b) How

much of each of the foreign currencies can you get for NZ$1?

order the items from least expensive to most expensive

INTERVIEW A PARENTConstruct a list of 5-10 questions enquiring about how they earned, spent and saved money when they

were your age. Interview a parent or caregiver and record their answers.

BACK IN TIMEResearch what people used

before money. How did they get what they needed to live? Write

a short explanation (1-2 paragraphs)

PROFESSIONAL SPORTWhat is the difference between an

amateur and a professional athlete?Create a table of 10 professional athletes, the country/team they

play for, the sport, how much they earn. Order them from highest to lowest by how much they earn.

NEW ZEALAND’S FLAGUsing an A4 piece of paper design a flag, which reflects New Zealand.

Be creative. Write a brief explanation why you chose your

design.

CURRENT AFFAIRSWatch the news for 3 days in a row. Write what were the stories that were:

a. Sadb. Funnyc. Heroicd. Scary

Don’t forget to say what you thought of each. Provide a little blurb about each of the news stories.

TAP N GOResearch this new way of paying and interview 4 people who have this facility. Create a PMI chart to

show what people think of it.

CLEVER SHOPPERSelect your favourite toy and find

out how much it costs at 3 different stores. Record the prices and the

difference between each store

PAYING THE BILLSAsk your parents for an estimate

or the actual cost of living in your house- find out the power, water, phone/internet, Sky TV (if

you have it). Work out how much per day your family has to

pay for these.

HOLIDAYUsing brochures and the internet, plan a 7 day family holiday. Make

Find out the costs of having a cat/dog from purchasing the pet

and meals. to registering it, feeding and housing it for a month. Work out how much it costs to have a pet

each year.

QUIZCreate 10 quiz cards OR a 10

question quiz for your class. Your subject is: MONEY! You may do

foreign currency; how much is…? with photos of a variety of coins; NZ coins and banknotes; banking and money word meanings. Be

creative.

WHAT IS A BANK?Create an Information Report using

either a Flip Book or a Keynote slideshow about “a bank”.

Remember you need to classify a bank, and provide information in categories about a bank. You will

need to do some research.

PUZZLEMAKERCreate a word puzzle using

PUBLIC TRANSPORTOne way to save money is using public transport regularly, rather

than running a car. This is possible for some people and not for others.

Create a PMI for using Public Transport, e.g., bus, train

DONATING TO A CHARITYWhat is a charitable trust? Choose and research a Charitable Trust in New Zealand. How do they support

the community or a group of people? Where does the money they fundraise go? Would you

donate to them? Why?

FREE STUFFResearch online or look in the

local newspaper, interview your parents and find what activities there are to do in Auckland for free! Create a table listing the venue, the type of activity, and the address for each activity.

RADIO JINGLECreate a radio jingle to advertise a

good or service. It must be 30 seconds or less. You need to

include in your jingle: name, phone number and other information. Be

prepared to share your jingle in front of the class!

GARAGE SALEYou’re having a garage sale.

Create a sign/poster to advertise your garage sale. It needs to be BOLD, and include the address, time, and any special items for

sale.

BARGAIN HUNTINGVisit an Opportunity Shop or

Secondhand Store and see what bargain you can buy. Record the event… what did you purchase? How much? How much do you think it would have cost you

brand new? Is this a good way to find some things? Why?

MONOPOLYPlay the board game, Monopoly, any version with your family or

friends.Write a recount afterwards about how the game played out. What

was your strategy? Did it work for you?

FROM FARM, TO STORECreate a comic using Comic Life or

a flow chart (with pictures, if possible) to show the process of

growing and getting a fresh, frozen or dried product to the

supermarket. You may choose any food item.

ON SALE!Choose a junk mail brochure and select 5 items. Cut them out and glue them in (or take a photo).

What is their original price? What is their discounted price? Work out how much money you would save (the difference for

each)?
