Policy Coverage – similarities to old HTH-UM plan shared by all 3 plans• Generous coverage amounts
($500,000 overall, less for some specific benefits)

How to purchase or sign-in for plans?
From within the Travel Registry only:
http://globalportal.umich.edu/register-travel.php
Note: Provost requires all persons (students & employees) on University-related travel abroad to register their trip in the Travel Registry
Where may I find more information about the plans?
From the special UHS website:
http://www.uhs.umich.edu/tai/
FAQs: Students
Q: Are Graduate/Professional students doing educational activities abroad required to purchase the plan?
A: YES (New requirement by Provost; Undergrads have had this requirement since 2008).
Q: Are students who are University employees (GSI, GSRA, Rackham Fellows, Work-Study, etc.) covered by the Business plan?
A: NO, unless they are traveling on University business. Otherwise they should purchase the Student (or Leisure) plan.
FAQs: Students (continued)
Q: Are students studying abroad on a non-UM program (for transfer credit) required to purchase the student plan?
A: These students should be strongly encouraged to purchase the plan.
Q: Are international students required to purchase the HTH student plan (when going outside the U.S. for educational purposes)?
YES, to avoid out-of-pocket medical expenses & to give access to the HTH medical network. Under special circumstances, a request to waive this requirement may be considered.
FAQs: Leisure/personal travel
Q: The personal/leisure traveler is abroad and wants to by the plan—is that possible?
A: NO. Unlike the Study Abroad plan, purchase may be made only before leaving the U.S.
Q: Is leisure/personal travel covered by the other plans (Student & Business)?
A: YES, as long as the primary purpose of the trip abroad is University-related.
FAQs: Employee Business Plan
Q: Who is covered by this plan?
A: Any University employee (faculty and staff) who travels abroad on University-related business. Temporary/part-time staff are covered just like “regular” staff who receive University Benefits.
Q: Who is not covered?
A: University employees who are traveling abroad exclusively for leisure or personal reasons—they may purchase the Leisure plan.
FAQs: Employee Business Plan (cont.)
Q: Since this is a blanket-coverage plan, is sign-in necessary?
A: Insurance coverage for UM business travelers is automatic, but signing-in to the HTH Business site is beneficial for obtaining information on HTH services & benefits, such as the international medical care network. Business travelers are required to register their trips in the Travel Registry.
Q: How do I sign-in?
A: From within the Travel Registry. You’ll find a code for UM which allows sign-in.
FAQs: Employee Business Plan (cont.)
Q: I tried signing-in using a mobile device but was denied entry.
A: Those who purchased the old HTH plan should use their old password for mobile sign-in. If there’s still a problem, contact UHS or HTH.
Q: I’ll be on sabbatical for longer than 180 days—can I be covered under the Business plan?
A: If you return to the U.S., the time re-starts. Should you stay abroad longer than 180 days, you may purchase the “Study Abroad Plan” before the 180 day limit. Also, check with the Benefits Office re “Out of Area” coverage under your regular plan.
FAQs: Employee Business Plan (cont.)
Q: Are post-docs covered?
A: Yes, if they are a University employee traveling on University business.
Q: Are family members covered?
A: Yes, if traveling with an employee traveling on University business, spouses, domestic partners and children under age 22 are covered.
Q: Are retirees or alumni eligible?
A: No.
Q: Is personal/leisure travel before or after the business part of the trip covered?
A: Yes.
