What is Ovarian Cancer?

Ovarian cancer is cancer arising from the cells in and around the ovary. This type of cancer begins in the fallopian tubes and moves to the ovaries, the twin organs that produce a woman’s eggs and the main source of female hormones.

This disease is often fatal because it is usually advanced when discovered. In the UK, 7,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer every year. The sooner it is diagnosed, the easier it is to treat it.

Ovarian Cancer Symptoms

In its early stages, ovarian cancer produces a few obvious and significant symptoms. These symptoms can be caused by conditions that are not cancer. As the disease progresses, the persistence of some signs may reveal the presence of the ovarian cancer.

If the symptoms occur for more than a few weeks, it is essential to report them to your health care professional.
