the reunion activities
On Thursday 25th November2004, the Fatima chapel warmlywelcomed back the Class of ’84.The mass was celebrated by noneother than Father Gervais Girod. Fr.Girod’s sermon took us back andreminded us of the important rolethat we play as adults and moreimportantly, as parents. The massproved inspirational to all whoattended and was the perfect wayto start the reunion.

On Friday 26th November, it was time to go back to that ole favouritewatering hole, Pelican Inn, for the boys to get together, have somedrinks, good food and gape at some drop dead gorgeous (or so theyseemed after six drinks, you be the judge) Carib Girls. The night wasoh-so-memorable for the “coming out” of Ian Salandy to KarimRahaman (you had to be there!) Don’t worry Ian, we all know that it
was your sister. Karim however, was totally fooled!
Shiva Manraj, lucky man, won a hamper full of fine liquor and graciously shared his bottle of Johnny Walker Black with theboys…now dat is a true partner!

On Saturday 27th November, the school hall was the venue for thegrand finale of the reunion. The hall was beautifully transformed fromthe ole sweat box into a wonderfully decorated, cool dining area, thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Chin Cheong.
It was wonderful to see the old faces, and though we have aged, somehow the teachers twenty years later looked the same! Sixteen ofour teachers were able to attend. It was a joy to chat with them soopenly without the fear of detention or a good cut arse! The teacherswho came were: Clive Pantin, John Romero, Clive John, Mr. and Mrs.Francisco Garcia, Alloy Lee Ha, Fenrick De Silva, Christian Harrigan,Mervin Achille, Harry Ramdass (who did not miss the Boys Lime, nat-urally), Sherry Ann Ahwai Chung, Fr. Gervais Girod, Glen Roach, RayHolman, Myrtle Cumberbatch, Marion Hubbard, Diane Persaud, Fr.Gregory Augustus and the current principal, Anthony Garcia. A spe-cial thanks to those “who came from foreign” - Richard Figaro, GeraldStewart, Dylan Marfan, Whitney Chin, Andrew Campbell and RichardHarris.
The night’s proceedings began with a prayer by Fr. Augustus and thesinging of the College Song…the memories came flooding back com-plete with goose pimples.
The gathering was addressed by Mr. De Silva, who spoke on behalf ofthe teachers, Joel Latiff, Secretary of the Fatima Old Boys’ Association(FOBA), and Stephen Harris, who spoke on behalf of the Reunion
Organising committee, paying special tribute to Raymond Sammsand Joseph Chin Cheong.
Hats off to Richard “Figgy” Figaro who did a splendid job as MC. Itwas “Figgy” who inspired the class to give a standing ovation to theteachers in recognition of the outstanding work they did in mouldingus into the great people that we are today.
The treat of the night was a slide show, created by Marlon Hoo Fatt,of some old school photos (courtesy Alan Donawa, StephenBroadbridge and Brendon Chow Lin On). What the hell was AntonioDavila trying to do with that contortionist act? The pictures from grad– they say fashion comes back eventually – not those outfits! AndRaymond “Roving Ace” Samms...Magnum PI?
Following the group shots of the teachers and the Class of ’84, therewas a raffle for two Fatima shirts which were won by Charles Pashleyand Hayden Charles and signed by all present…a real collector’sitem!
Colin Inniss as DJ and Alan Donawa on box bass with the parangband “Paranderos de UWI” provided entertainment for the night.
But the evening was not incident-free as Glenn Roach ex-tempoed achallenge to the Class of ’84 for a football match with the teachers.Wonder what will happen there...

Well there we were all decked out in our LucozadeSport T-shirts expecting to play the teachers and notone of them played! Instead, we played a past first XIteam (Nicholas Goddard, Dwight Andrews, DexterJohn and Ricky Waite to name a few) who played onbehalf of the teachers – what a set up! We lost 4-1 butbecause of the misrepresentation, The TTFF has advisedthat the result of the match was null and void.

Andre HugginsBeautiful teachers like Avril Coar, JillianDaniel, Sherrie-Ann Gardener and Pat Clerk;giving out detention as a Prefect and justliming on the 6th Form Block talking non-sense!
Patrick ChinasingDoing Sesame Street skits at Christmas –and the time we came back from 3-0 downagainst Lower Six, to win 6-3! ClairmonteBourne rallied the team at half time and Iwas goalie for the second half.
Raymond SammsThe down-the-islands weekend retreat withFather Macky; playing football every Fridayafter school and jumping into the river toretrieve the ball; the escapades to that "cen-trally located place"; night study.
Martin SteeleManchester United playing at Fatimagrounds and Mr. Kuei Tung giving us twoperiods off to watch. Go Red Devils!
Brian MorrisPlumes of brown fumes in Mr. John’sChemistry class and of course Mr. Sunderji’sreaction the day the chalk dropped from hishand during Math class and landed standingon end!
Azim SunderjiBeing turned away from entering the school
by Mr. Sunderji after the Form Five last dayfestivities, because my shirt was ripped toshreds.
Richard FigaroThe day all the guys chased me through thecourtyard to dump me in the bin (I wouldhave escaped if not for that Ravi Samaroofella!) and racing back to class after playingfootball during lunchtime and drying ourshirts over the fans behind the Audio VisualCenter.
Marlon Hoo FattCowboy X.
Robin MaharajEvery day. It was worth it.
Stuart GoodingIntercol. Of course, I didn’t actually seemuch football because there were always somany nice “young ladies” to talk to!

Nigel PantinTyrone Brown leading the troops into battleto retrieve a stolen cricket ball from studentsof a neighbouring school (yes, we got backthe ball!); Mr. Niles falling off his chair dur-ing study period (yuh just had to be there);Mr. Pouchet putting me out of class becauseI said he had “antique glasses”; Ms. JuneLendor banishing me from French because Isaid she looked more like March.
Roger-Mark De SouzaMs. Humphrey admonishing our sluggish-ness during French class, which was heldafter lunch, by accusing us of having eatentoo much “ground provision” for lunch;
breaking biche with Hayden Charles, JuanCezar and others to go to Maracas (the onlytime, I swear!) and Father Girod organizingfor us to meet with the girls from Bishops, and vehemently reminding us, “Boys, sexdoesn’t mean the same thing for girls…”
Brian HoGeorge’s delicious doubles, bomb scares andfuture lawyers (no names mentioned)stretching a two-minute discussion into ahalf-hour argument.
Dominic RodriguezThe time Scotland was bowled in thegoonies by Andrew Singh and it took himhalf an hour to crawl back from the field, across the road and into class.
Gerald StewartSmall goal after school and watching KeithScotland sneaking down doubles duringclass time.
Gregory KirkpatrickKeith Scotland, when asked to read his poemin Literature class, took advantage of his‘heightened’ cerebral powers. He picked up ablank copybook, recited verse after verse, turned the page and continued for anotherminute or so. When asked to repeat the sec-ond stanza he went back to the first pagewithout missing a beat. How humble he wasin repetition!
Anston RambarranClass was in session when something washeard trickling onto the floor. It was revealedthat Neil Prima had peed himself. When theteacher asked him if he wanted to go to thebathroom, he replied, “It’s too late”.

As lost connections were re-established andnew ones made, it would be great to gettogether more. I am delighted that we wereable to come together and have a good timewithout feeling awkward. To the guys thatdidn’t come, there will be other times to reac-quaint. To the committee, many thanks for ajob well done!
Winslow Douglas (AKA…Walter)
I must go on record to commend the com-mittee, all who attended and even those whocouldn’t come, but gave your moral support. It was great to see everyone and relive thememories from all those pictures (I’m gladthere were no incriminating ones!)
Huggy Bear
My heartfelt thanks to the whole steeringcommittee and all others who were on theperiphery helping to make this first Class of1984 Reunion a success. I know it took a lotout from your busy schedules but at the endof the day the job was well done and muchappreciated.
To those “foreign-nationals” who graced uswith their presence…thanks for making thetrek down. To all others who were in Trinidadbut could not make it…you really missed agreat weekend! Let us also think about thechallenge put to us by Joel to join FOBA. Weare all at that learned age where we can makevaluable contributions to our Alma Mater.
Alan Donowa
It’s amazing that it has been twenty yearssince we left. The recent reunion, which Ialmost did not make it to, was nothing lessthan incredible, bringing back many memo-ries of classmates, teachers and the school.Strive on Fatima Boys, strive on!
Karim Rahaman
Words cannot express how much this 20-year reunion meant to me. Props to Stephen,Marlon, Derek, Raymond, Latiff, Joseph Chinand all those who sacrificed their time. I holdFatima College close to my heart and I wouldlike to repay the school for all the success Ihave gained as a result of the foundation thatFatima laid for me. I feel strongly that we ‘oldboys’ can make a difference in the lives of thepresent and future students. Special thanksto Figgie for the entertaining MC job.
Dylan Marfan
Great job guys! Truly a display of excellenceby dedicated Fatima Men.
Nigel Pantin
The memories from the lime and dinner shallbe cherished forever. I’m back in the frozenTundra but with a whole lot of warm memo-ries. I miss the camaraderie already.
Richard Figaro
From what I can read, everyone had a brillianttime. Excellent job to all those who made thetime to organize this event. Although I couldnot make it, I was there in spirit and treasureall the experiences I had back in the day, espe-cially since they shaped me into who I amnow.
Sheldon Millette
I am disappointed that I couldn’t make it forthe reunion, but as you know, Grenada hasbeen hit hard by Hurricane Ivan and I’minvolved in the rebuilding process. I wisheveryone a truly great reunion and am lookingforward to seeing all the pictures and gettingeveryone’s contact information. No matterhow far away I am, I still believe that FatimaCollege gave me the best days of my life – itis truly the best school in Trinidad.
Bobby Steele
A big ‘well done’ to the class of ‘84 and Ihope that this reunion is a catalyst for net-working and re-igniting old relationships.
