We welcome our new President, retired United Methodist

Church pastor Elizabeth (Liz) Mortlock. Newly elected Directors

are LeRoy Worley, Marianne Bird and Sheila Overstreet.

Returning from last year are Brenda Brooks, Alicia Bosserman,

David Tanner, Everett Werness, Milton Marks, Nancy Clemens,

Page Marshall, and Pam Murray. Our hard working Board of

Directors are the silent force that keeps the Community

Outreach Program running smoothly!

Dear Friends,

As winter slowly peeks into spring and flowers begin to bloom my heart is filled with the

possibilities for the coming future and a look back at the wonderful times we have shared with

the 80 children at Community Outreach Program. Last fall we started a choir that traveler to

Lynchburg and spent the night at Amazement Square children's museum. We also had the

college counselor come and talk with 4th grade and up students about Virginia Western

Community College and how to get tuition paid with good grades. Our birthdays were

celebrated with handmade cakes. Our Harvest party was a huge hit thanks to Raleigh Court

UMC. We had a wonderful Christmas Party at Life Tabernacle in Vinton, where Santa waited to

give gifts to all the children. Every child received a backpack and supplies for school as well as

new books to read. So far we have served over $15,000 meals through our evening meal

program and UFOs (U Feed Others- 6 meals for the weekend).

The Community Outreach Program is so blessed to have more than 250 volunteers reaching

out there arms in love to these children and youth we serve. God had truly given us cause to

be thankful and the blessings God had for these children keep flowing from the hearts of

individuals, corporations, and organizations that see the needs of the children and put them

first. We are delighted at the possibility of having 95 children in the program next year, can't

wait to share more as the summer comes!

Our scripture here at COP is "For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for welfare

not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11 The future keeps getting brighter

and brighter. We are looking forward to Summer Camp and all the fun that Summer time

brings. The Fall will be hear again, in no time at all and the doors of these old churches will

once again open to the children in the community, welcoming them to come and see what

God has planned for them.

May the blessings of Lent, the journey in the wilderness lead you to the saving love of Jesus'

resurrection.

Happy Easter,

Becky Parsons
