ABOUT THE REGION ONE TIMER STRIKE TEAM

The Region One Timber Strike Team was developed in 2004 to assist Region One with its rising timber sale preparation needs. The Strike Team also serves as a training organization for individuals pursuing careers in natural resource management. We are based out of Missoula, MT. The anticipated start date for these positions is mid-May 2016. Employees who are students generally work through the end of August, while others may work as late as December. Employment is expected to last from mid-May through mid-October. Extensive travel is required for these positions. Employees can expect to be in travel status 100% of the time. Work schedule is maxi-flex: consisting of various schedules including: 8, 10-hour days (Wednesday-Wednesday); 4, 10-hour days (Monday-Thursday); and/or up to 17, 10-hour days in a row to accommodate extended travel.

The Region One Timber Strike Team is looking for motivated individuals with forestry background and knowledge. Duties will include: Effectively communicating and collaborating with supervisors, project leaders, crew bosses and coworkers. Completing qualified cruiser training classes and assisting certified cruisers in all aspects related to the fundamentals of timber cruising. Correctly identifying individual trees for harvest or retention based of making guides and prescriptions. Designate harvest unit boundaries in the field. Interprets sale area maps and locates designated units and locations in the field. Observes and reports areas of possible archeological significance, hydrologic features, infeasible ground, and sighting of significant wildlife and plants species to specialists.
