Outlook 2007 Email Configuration Settings - IMAP

Open Outlook 2007 and click the Tools menu in the top tool bar. From the drop down menu, select Account Settings…

Click the button marked New…


Tick the Manually configure server settings or additional server types checkbox, and click the Next > button.

Select Internet E-mail and click the Next > button.


Enter the information using your own name, e-mail address and password. Your User Name will be your full e-mail address. Incoming and Outgoing mail servers should be set to mail1.globalrelay.com. Click the button marked More Settings …

Under the General tab, in the Mail Account box, enter the name you want for this account. Only you see this entry in Outlook, and will distinguish this account from other accounts in Outlook. You may leave it as your e-mail address if you wish.


Click on the Outgoing Server tab, and tick the checkbox labelled My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication and make certain the radio button that says Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected.

Now, click on the Advanced tab and set the Incoming server (IMAP) to 143 and the Outgoing server (SMTP) to 8025 as shown below:


NOTE: Optional Secure Connection Settings (SSL) If you wish, you can opt for more secure connections to the e-mail server. Under the Advanced tab, set the two dropdown boxes marked Use the following type of encrypted connection: both to SSL, and set the Incoming server (IMAP) to 993 and the Outgoing server (SMTP): to 465.

Click the OK Button and Outlook will congratulate you on setting up your new account.


Right-click on the newly created email account name, and choose the option IMAP Folders…

Click on the Query button and find the Sent Items folder; once this folder is highlighted click on the Subscribe button. Then click OK to accept the changes and close the window.


Now that you’re back in Outlook, we have to create a rule that will create a copy of e-mails you’ve sent in the Sent Items folder. Click on the menu item Tools, and then select Rules and Alerts…

In the Rules and Alerts window that comes up, click on the New Rule… button


The Rules Wizard will appear. Highlight the option Check messages after sending which is below the Start from a blank rule option. Then click the Next > button.


The Rules Wizard will display several options. Tick the checkbox marked on this machine only. Click the Next > button.


The Rules Wizard will ask you what you want to do with the message. Tick the checkbox marked move a copy to the specified folder. After you’ve ticked the checkbox, you will see the rule added to the Edit box below. You will see the word specified is underlined which indicates it is an editable value. Click on the word specified.


Select the Sent Items folder under the mailbox account you’ve just created, (not under Personal Folders) and click the OK button.

Click the Next > button until you see Finish rule setup. Give the rule a name and click the Finish button. You should now have sucessfully configured your Outlook 2007 to send and receive your e-mail.
