Outdoor Recreation and Active Lifestyles COURSE DESCRIPTION Outdoor Recreation & Active Lifestyles a subject catering to students who are pas- sionate about the pursuit of Outdoor Rec- reation activities and leading a lifestyle that seeks out challenge and new experiences. The course is largely practical based, with regular and engaging hands on experienc- es forming the bulk of the course makeup. Participation in this course would lead to improving skills and knowledge relevant in Stage 6 PDHPE and SLR and would provide students with the opportunity to develop and/or increase an interest in pursuing a career in outdoor recreation COURSE OUTLINE Key Content Areas: Students would be able to engage in a range of modules that each have a specific outdoor recreational focus. Content areas could include, but are not limited to: Outdoor Rec Activities: Archery, Rock Climbing, Abseiling, Bushwalking, Orienteering, Canoeing/Kayaking, Fish- ing, Mountain Biking (Opportunities to link with local Sport & Rec). Camping and Bush survival, emergency first aid and basic bushcraft skills (Plan a major excursion). Recreational and Cultural Games Units (For example, Bocce, Table Tennis, Cro- quet, Buroinjin). Aquatics certifications (Bronze Medal- lion). LINK TO FUTURE EMPLOYMENT AND STUDY PROGRESSION The course would largely be a practical and hands on subject that would suit a range of students. The skills learnt in the course would contribute to areas in Stage 6 PDHPE and SLR and align with future employment prospects in Outdoor recreation, teaching, sports coaching and the fitness industry.
