UL 4041 is a comprehensive Safety Certification program that evaluates dangers like corrosion, stability, strength, shear and pinch points, endurance and durability. Designed to demonstrate that outdoor furniture does not present a risk of injury during typical usage and reasonably foreseeable misuse, UL 4041 delivers consistency and the rigor of science-based evaluations of safety and durability. Products can now be certified to UL 4041, enabling manufacturers and retailers to evaluate the safety and quality of their products, mitigate risk of injuries caused by falls, or bodily injuries due to pinched or cut body parts during use, and empower consumers to choose safer and higher quality products. What is measured in the UL 4041 testing process
The most comprehensive certi� cation program available, UL 4041 is designed to evaluate aspects of patio furniture that could result in failure or injury during normal or reasonably foreseeable misuse. This program evaluates:
Mechanical integrity Mechanical-related safety issues include things like component quality and integrity to reduce risk of breakage or failure, and structural strength of the unit, such as weight-bearing load or unevenly distributed loads. Mechanical safety also identi� es sharp edges, pinch points, or other hazards that may cause injury.
Performance Performance testing is designed to prevent product failure under reasonably-foreseeable use conditions and includes extensive durability testing to provide con� dence in the product’s lifetime usage.
The certi� cation document details testing requirements for each di� erent kind of furniture and its components. Applicable products covered in the document include tables, chairs, loveseats, chaise lounges, benches and hanging chairs.
