OUTDOOR ART CLUB NEWSLETTER
February 2014
President’s Message:
The month of February always takes me by surprise. I am never quite ready to purchase Valentine treats, when my Holiday Cards are still visible. However, I must say that our Outdoor Art Club is very prepared for this February’s events. I can’t wait to see you at the Crab Feast on February 1. I hope that you have February 7 and 8 on your calendar for the Marin Masters Art Show. The presenting artists are amazing talents. Drop by Friday night or Saturday night for a glass of wine and view (and purchase) from these masters. We have very important Thursday programs for you: February is the month of the heart; so on Thursday of the HDL we have Heart Health for Women program; on February 20th Civics and Conservation present the “No Bully” program. So if you have grandchildren, young friends, bring their parents and teachers. This event is open to the public. And of course, at the Thursday Guest Tea we celebrate our Life Members with a wonderful program about the Milley Awards and a delicious tea. While we are having fun, we continue our job as stewards of our historic Maybeck building. The month of January, Building Preservation hired a contractor to update our entire electric service at the club. I want to thank those who have been involved and are involved in making all this goodness happen at OAC. Gerrie Young President

GARDEN TOUR UPDATE
The plans for the May 1st Garden Tour continue at a fast pace! If you have not yet done so please return your GT volunteer request sheet as soon as possible or email Jane Richmond at [email protected] to volunteer. We need everyone! We are also looking for someone to step up and be the Dining Room Chair. Were you ever a waitress in a former life, or know how to manage a dining room? If so please consider helping as the Dining Room Chair. No kitchen duty involved! Or if you know someone who might be a good fit for this position, please call or send an email to Mary Jo Sorensen [email protected] or Randi Deutsch [email protected] . Calling all bakers: Once again the Garden Tour luncheon will feature a dessert buffet. Janis Bosenko is coordinating this much-anticipated buffet of delicious treats baked by OAC members. Bakers are needed to make cookies, brownies, lemon bars, mini cupcakes and other delectable treats. In addition, some tea breads or mini muffins are needed to serve to our guests in the morning. If you can provide baked goods for these two purposes, please email Janis at [email protected]
The Outdoor Art Club on Facebook The Outdoor Art Club now has an official Facebook page! You can see it at www.facebook.com/OutdoorArtClub, even if you are not a Facebook user. If you are a Facebook user, we hope you will “Like” the page and invite your friends. The page will be used to feature information about the club and our public programs, as well as our beautiful clubhouse. Thank you to Linda Rosso for facilitating this Board approved venture. The OAC moves with the times!
GREAT BRIDGE NEWS! Jan Spars organized two sets of bridge lessons at the club this year. There was a class for beginners in October, and one for intermediate players in January. They were both very well attended with seven tables for beginning bridge and thirteen for intermediate bridge. After paying the teacher, Peggy Tatro, OAC made a profit of $2,600. We plan to continue these lessons next year and possibly have a bridge luncheon fundraiser.
Jan also initiated getting much-needed new game tablecloths. She researched purchasing ready-made ones and found them to be quite expensive. Instead she calculated the amount and purchased the material, which Lupe Coleman and Pauline Nacamuli then cut and hemmed into 23 smart new hunter green tablecloths saving us lots of money! Check them out! Thank you Jan, Lupe and Pauline th
