(Out of breath) “Whew! That was a good workout! I never realized how far it was from the back of the room to the stage. I think I need a break! Maybe a drink of water . . . maybe a nap. (Begin to stretch.) But no time for that! We’re here to have fun and learn a little something about our new series… The Amazing Maze! • What is this series about? It’s all about

determination! • What do YOU think determination means? (Wait

for response)

• Determination is making up your mind to finish what you’ve started! In other words, it means to keep going until you’re done, even if you’re too tired and want to give up! ELEM Maze WK 1 (1)

• I follow some fun Youtubers who do all kinds of fun challenges with their friends. But one guy just doesn’t seem to ever win. But this time… he’s determined to succeed! Check it out!

• Koby was so determined not to lose that he finally won a challenge!

• To help us focus on determination, I thought we’d play a little game. But before we get started with our game, it’s important we stretch. You know, just to get us warmed up. Perform easy stretches with kids: toe touches, arm stretches, deep knee bends, jumping jacks, etc. Be silly during this to get the kids into it! ELEM Maze WK 1 (2)

Now, here’s today’s game. I’m going to need 6 contestants (3 boys and 3 girls). You’ll be split up into 2 teams of 3! You’ve probably noticed the tape on the floor. Each team will have a turn with 90 seconds to complete the taped out obstacle course. But here’s the catch, you have to wait for one team member to go through the course before the next may go through the course. The team that has all team members go through the course in the shortest amount of time will be our champions and receive a prize! Audience, don’t forget you play a part in this too! Root really loudly for the team you want to win! Determine players and get them set up. • Now, who’s ready to race through this obstacle

course? On your mark, get set, go! ELEM Maze WK 1 (3)

Host leads the Game

• Wow! Those were some fast times! (Award winning team a prize) Let’s give a round of applause to ALL of our contestants for participating!

• When we play fun games like this, and there is a prize, I’m sure everyone is determined to win. But whether or not you are the winner, the point is being determined to work together as a team and not give up!

• I have a question for you guys: Are you ready to worship? (Pause.) Then stand up!

• Man, can you believe school is ending already? That means summer is just around the corner! You made it through another school year. WAY TO GO! Give yourself a round of applause! (Pause for applause.)

• You have a lot to look forward to at the end of a school year: class parties, field days, awards days, and more! All of these fun events are your reward for putting in the effort to learn over the school year.

• I know this year hasn’t always been easy. Some of you may have struggled with learning how to multiply with triple digits or diagram complex sentences, but you made it! You didn’t give up. You didn’t quit.

• There’s a word we use to show when we haven’t quit, especially during the difficult or hard times of our lives. What word is that again? (Wait for response) Yup, That word is determination.

• Think about this school year for a moment: what was one thing you tried to learn or do this year that you found was very difficult? (Pause for a few responses.)

LEM Maze WK 1 (6)

Those are some really difficult things to learn and do! I know one lesson I found difficult when I was younger. [Make It Personal] Tell one quick lesson you found difficult to learn. You know what I learned through that difficulty? Quitting is never the best answer when life gets hard. A better option is to work through the difficult situation, because it’s in those moments that we learn more about ourselves, and more importantly, we learn more about how God helps us during difficult times in our lives.

If you take a look in the book of Acts, you can discover that Jesus’ good friends—the disciples—faced a difficult situation. Let’s check it out!

We have one more announcement before we end our time here today.

Maze_Baptism Class Sign Up_Slide

We always talk about signing up for Baptism class, but what is it really? Baptism class is for those who have already committed to being a follower of Jesus. During the class the teacher will go over a few things to make sure you know what being a fully devoted follower of Christ looks like. Then you get dunked, but in a good way! Baptism is a way to let others know you are part of God’s team! That’s all the time we have today. Don’t forget, Keep going even when it gets hard. So no matter what you face, don’t give up! God is right here with you. His Spirit is with you every step of your life, promising to give you strength when you feel weak and power when you feel like giving up. See you next week!
