The jointly funded $6.4 million project ($3.2 million contributed each from the Federal Government and Rockhampton Regional Coun- cil) has transformed this hall into a state of the art facility, which pro- vides a community and cultural hub located in the heart of Yeppoon. As a long-time Capricorn Coast resident – having first moved here with Gail in 1977, and returning to Yeppoon in 1991 where we have re- sided ever since – I consider myself and my family locals. We love living on the Capricorn Coast and I am as equally delighted as everyone else to bring this great community facility to fruition. This site is rich with history, ori- ginally the location of Yeppoon’s School of Arts and following its de- mise the construction of the Yep- poon Town Hall in 1965, and now a vibrant and valuable community town hall. One thing that has and will remain a constant is the com- munity’s enthusiasm and commit- ment to performing arts. The curtain was raised on the first stage production on Saturday night for the opening performance of Oklahoma and it was my great pleasure to open this professional and entertaining musical. Rockhampton Regional Council is proud to have officially opened theYeppoon Town Hall on Thursday 8 September 2011.

This $6.4 million investment will see a state of the art community and culturalhub located in the heart of Yeppoon’s Central Business District.

This project was made possible due to funding received from the AustralianGovernment’s Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program, withRockhampton Regional Council matching the funding dollar for dollar.

The Yeppoon Town Hall is available for hire by the community including hire ofthe Function Room, the Auditorium or the entire Town Hall.

THE Yeppoon Town Hall willagain become the community’smeeting place after its official open-ing on Thursday, September 8.

Mayor Brad Carter and Memberfor Capricornia Kirsten Livermoreofficially opened the doors to the re-developed Yeppoon Town Hall.

This $6.4 million edifice has beentransformed into a state-of-the-artcommunity and cultural hub rightin the heart of Yeppoon’s CentralBusiness District.

This project was made possiblewith the assistance of funding re-ceived from the Federal Govern-ment’s Regional and Local Com-munity Infrastructure Program,

while Rockhampton RegionalCouncil matched the funding dollarfor dollar.

As he proudly performed the offi-cial opening of Yeppoon’s new cul-tural focal centre, Mayor Brad Car-ter said: “The building has beentransformed into a vibrant and va-luable hall where we can interactwith and celebrate our community,past and present.

“Gail and I are proud CapricornCoast residents and are looking for-ward to coming along to manycommunity productions and eventsheld in the revamped YeppoonTown Hall in the years tocome,” Cr Carter said.

WHEN awarded the tenderfor the Yeppoon Town Hall,Beat architects Carl Brown andJoon Jung wanted to create apublic building that reflectedYeppoon as a modern, vibrantcoastal town.

“We wanted to create some-thing that was 21st century,modern and expressed the di-rection where Yeppoon’s builtenvironment was heading –that this is a go-ahead town,”Carl said.

“Initially we looked at what’sgoing to be happening in thisbuilding and wanted the reflec-tion of a performance,” saidJoon, explaining that a dynam-ic gesture was the main designconcept.

With an impressive glassfrontage and clean lines thebuilding has a sculptural ele-ment and the architects agreethey didn’t want it to be just abuilding but wanted to create apiece of civic sculpture.
