Completion of the fit out of East Quay 5, Newcastle, saw the relocation of Barclays

staff and equipment from Cross House to East Quay 5. Whilst many items of furni-

ture were moved, the projects team made no allowance for the relocation of the

World War 1 (WW1) Memorial plaque, which lists the names of all former Barclays staff

from the local area that gave their lives in the Great War. The importance and poignancy

of the memorial, more so this being the centenary of the outbreak of WW1, was recog-

nised by the local ISS staff; a combined team of engineers, fabrics and security took this

on as personal project. The memorial, which weighed approximately 200kg and is made

from cast bronze, was removed from Cross House and transported to East Quay 5. It took

all 5 members of the integrated team to man handle the plaque and mount it in place on

the wall within the reception of East Quay 5. The plaque was too heavy to mount directly

on to the wall so the team purchased materials, fixings and boarding and built a support

step and a backing support to secure the plaque in place. With the plaque now in place,

Barclays now intend to hold a small memorial ceremony with some of the relatives of the

fallen soldiers listed.
