MISSIONARY: KEWEN DONG LOCATIONS: GREENSBORO, ROCKY MOUNT, & ELIZABETH CITY, NC

Does anybody here this morning speak Chinese? Not so many, huh? But there are thousands of Chinese people in North Carolina who need to hear the gospel! So how do we tell them about Jesus Christ? The answer is, the same way we reach lost people overseas — we send missionaries.

Today we want to pray for one of our missionaries we have sent to reach the Chinese people in our state. He is KeWen Dong (say first name as KEH-win). KeWen was a medical doctor back in China, but the Lord called

him to minister. He has helped plant churches for Chinese in Rocky Mount and Elizabeth City and started working in Greensboro as well in 2015. He has focused on the people who own and work in Chinese restaurants. Often he leads Bible studies in those restaurants at midnight when the people finish working for the day. Our church is supporting KeWen through our Cooperative Program giving. In fact our church is supporting about 150 church planters across North Carolina -- and many of these are working with ethnic peoples like the Chinese.

Missionary: Trey Van Camp Email: [email protected] Location: Queen Creek, AZ https://www.facebook.com/TreyVanCampIII

Queen Creek is one of the fastest growing cities in Arizona. A lot of young families are moving in. But half the people here claim no religion at all. The thought of so many souls deprived of the gospel weighed heavily on Trey and his father, Billy. They decided a new church was needed to reach the flood of young outsiders moving into the city, who weren’t likely to drive out to Horseshoe Park for services targeting Queen Creek’s native cowboys.

Throughout 2015, a core team of about 40 people gathered in four different Bible studies, and the new congregation, Heart Cry Gathering, drew 140 people to its January 10 launch at a movie theater in the heart of Queen Creek. The church plant receives funding from the North American Mission Board (NAMB). Eight people were baptized that first Sunday and, barely two months later, another five were baptized on Easter. “People my age are apathetic,” he says. “I have some friends who think what we are doing is cool, but they don’t want anything to do with it. Religion is not a route they want to take.”

“Heart Cry Gathering is connecting with the Millennial generation by being both ancient and modern at the same time,” Trey says. “We do communion every week. We recite confessions,” Trey explains, “but we meet in a movie theater and use video technology very well. All of our leadership is in their 20s, but at the same time we talk about what we do as Southern Baptists and we are passionate about the Cooperative Program.” Heart Cry Gathering tries to get maximum leverage out of its movie theater setting. “We gave away 100 free movie tickets at our launch service,” Trey says. “All our flyers look like movie theater posters, and we use movie clips to illustrate what we are talking about in our services.” But while they are connecting the gospel to people, Heart Cry Gathering also wants to connect people to their community, and the community to the mission of Jesus.

Missionary: Larry and Sarah Ballew (2005) Location: Macau, China email: [email protected]

As CBF field personnel to China, the Ballews work in Macau, a city of more than 500,000 people living in an area of less than 12 square miles. Their ministry includes building relationships in local schools, restaurants and in other community service areas. They "serve the servers" in Macau, using English classes, visits, special events and Bible study to serve the staff of the large hospitality industry.

“The number one need of everyone we work with is relationship with Jesus Christ,” Larry said. “Macau is less than 1 percent Christian in a city of over 500,000 people. There are many, many needs and opportunities but not

enough Christian workers,” Sarah said.

The Ballews work with local churches and organizations and enjoy building bridges for ministry between Macau and U.S. churches. “As representatives of God's kingdom, we live to proclaim a message of healing from the past, help for the present and hope for the future."

Missionary: Alicia and Jeffrey Lee (2011) Location: Skopje, Macedonia http://thelittleleefamily.blogspot.com/

Alicia and Jeffrey Lee seek to be the presence of Christ by engaging in holistic, relational and healing ministries among the ethnic groups of Skopje.

"We are compelled to join God in ministry among the poor, marginalized and neglected: to serve people marginalized by poverty, to show the love of Jesus Christ to many who feel unloved, and to share life together in community with the people God places around us." The Lees work alongside local, grassroots organizations to address the needs of families living in extreme poverty, people neglected by society, and

children rescued from or at-risk for human-trafficking.

The encouragement of Fellowship churches and individuals and families is vital to the ministry in Macedonia. "It is our desire to partner others who are also called to participate in God's work in Macedonia through prayer, financial support, and short-term mission teams.

VBS…Workers Still Needed!!

Vacation Bib le School changes l ives!

To volunteer, contact:

Diane Poag at

726-2515 or [email protected]

Our single most important task in Vacation Bible School is to guide children into a growing relationship with Jesus. To accomplish this task, we must be willing to get down to a child’s level. The apostle Paul did this well. He adapted his presentation of the gospel to fit the occasion. God’s message remained the same, but Paul would step into the sandals of his listeners and would fashion his approach with the gospel according to their needs. During Vacation Bible School, we enter the world of children and experience things as they do. We look at life through their eyes, not our own, and communicate with them on their level. Jesus did this. When He said, ”Suffer the little children to come unto me” (Mark 10:14), He interrupted His teaching of adults, turned His attention towards the little children, and adjusted His approach to their level. Our theme this year is “Galactic Starveyors: Discovering the God of the Universe”. As Galactic Starveyors, children will search the skies and God’s word to uncover God’s truth etched in His handiwork. They will discover that the God who created everything that there is wants a relationship with them! From the very beginning, God had a plan to restore the relationship He knew we would break. God sent His son, Jesus, to be our Savior and His Holy Spirit to be our Helper. From the very beginning to the furthest reaches of space (and beyond), NOTHING is outside of God’s control or beyond His grasp. God loves us and will never leave us! During the week, we will learn how 1) the Relationship began, 2) the Relationship was broken, 3) the Restoration was Promised, 4) the Relationship was restored, and

5) the Relationship continues. Our Mission Outreach this year is Family Promise. Each VBS Department will visit the mission, learn about what the mission does, and deliver much needed items that have been brought from home. All of our offering collected during VBS will be given to Family Promise. The children will learn that they can be missionaries right here in Carteret County. Our VBS IS mak-ing a difference in our community! We are planning VBS now!

It is NOT too late to volunteer! No experience is necessary! Let’s not let our children down. Let’s not let God down! God tells us that as Christians we have a responsibility to teach others about Christ! Are you willing to follow God’s great commandment to “go ye therefore and teach”? Please pray as to how God would use you in this year’s VBS? Be willing to sacrifice your time and energy for our children and God’s Kingdom. Someone did it for you! Please contact me and let me know where you would like to help! I ask each of you to pray for our VBS, our workers, our children, and the lives God already knows will be touched! Our VBS changes lives every year!

ANNIE ARMSTRONG EASTER OFFERING The Annie Armstrong Easter Offering® changes lives forever by empowering North American missionaries to bring the gospel to the lost. With over 269 million lost people, North America and its major cities are some of the most spiritually dark places in the world. Join us on the mission to equip every missionary and reach every lost person in the United States and Canada. Our goal this year is to raise $1,500 for our North American missionaries.

WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

The CBF Offering for Global Missions is the way many CBF field

personnel are supported in ministry. Your gifts to this offering are what

sends them to the mission field and keeps them there to be and share the

presence of Christ.
