Term 3 is rapidly coming to an end which is both exciting and scary for teachers and

students alike as we look forward to a holiday but start thinking about the looming end of

the year!

Our senior students are well into the preparation for NCEA exams coming up in November

– last week as our practice exam week and overall staff were impressed with the effort that

went into the exams from our students.

We have had students all over the South Island representing us in various sports over

tournament week and once again we battled hard and represented well in all events. Many

thanks to those parents involved in managing, transporting and motivating these teams.

We had wonderful success again this year in the Dan Davin writing competition, taking out

1st and 3rd in the junior section and a clean sweep of 1st and 2nd in the senior section with a

Highly Commended thrown in as well in the senior section.

On the Environmental front we have held our own as well by following on from the

successful Treemendous event held in August with another planting session on Saturday 7th

September where we planted another few hundred plants. The area is taking shape quickly

and we currently have some senior technology students occupied with projects over there

as well. If you haven’t taken a walk down the path it is really lovely, and we encourage you

to do so.

We also held a clean-up day last

Wednesday during activities

where the whole school got

around different parts of Riverton

cleaning up rubbish. We had

Environment Southland and

WasteNet Southland here to help

us measure everything and we

collected over 40kg of rubbish in

approx. 30 mins! The beach

Red Cross First Aid On the 12 and 13 September 2019 the Year 12 students completed the Red Cross First Aid

course. Over the two days we learnt the mnemonic DRSABCD, we learnt about how to help

someone who was choking, CPR on babies, kids and adults. We also learnt about injuries and

how to help fix them. How to bandage the hand and foot. Another mnemonic RICE. We

learnt a lot of skills that will be handy if ever needed. We now have a first aid certificate that

will go on our CV’s for a job now or in the future.

on 31 of August and1 September, there were over 70 shooters form all over Otago and

Southland, the weather was perfect for Clay Target Shooting.

It was great for the boys to have Mrs Fraser and her Husband turn up to the Wanaka Gun

Club on Saturday to watch them shoot, they were even happy to get a photo with her.

The day started with Skeet, both boys shot really well, they won the two-person skeet

team with a score of 47 out of 50. Kori and Blake were both in a couple of shoot offs,

Blake was 3rd in the Senior single barrel, Kori was 3rd in the Junior points score.

Day Two at Alex, Skeet was first up both boys shot really well again, then it was time for

the DTL of the competition, Blake was on fire, he had a fantastic day he got perfect

scores in single rise and single barrel and was in three shoot offs, his single rise shoot off

went for around 77 targets. Blake was high overall Senior single rise and single barrel.

both Boys were picked for the Southland team Blake for the five

person DTL team and Kori for the 3-person skeet team.

A sincere thank you must go to the boy’s

coach Mrs Jan Manson, she volunteers her

time, knowledge and expertise each week and

these boys wouldn't be getting the

achievements they are if it wasn't for her.

The next shoot is the North Island and

Nationals up at Hamilton at the end of

September.

Good Luck boys.

Inzone Careers The Inzone Careers Bus provided career education to the Year 9 -13 students of Aparima

College on the morning of 16 September.

Inzone has toured New Zealand schools since 2003, inspiring hundreds of thousands of

people to strive for success, follow their dreams and above all else to ‘give it a go!’

The Careers Coach is a bus with 26 touchscreen computer "kiosks" lined up inside. Anyone

can come onboard and watch videos that show how to get into courses and jobs. The benefit

is people can learn about career options all in one place, then the service will text them if

they want more information to follow it up later. The Inzone bus was established and

operated by Peter and Donna Doake with support from many other educational training

providers and businesses travels. The bus is on the road around NZ for 25 weeks of the year

providing career information to schools and other training providers.
