A third hunt of a lifetime! How do you tell the story of a third hunt of a lifetime?
Well it starts of with a big thank you to theprofessional staff at Dries Visser Safaris and PH
Hein Lottering. I had a short list this trip with Sableand Cape Buffalo my main focus.
On the first day I took a beautiful Sable and the third dayI finaly got a Blesbuck which has eluded me the pasttwo trips. And on the final day, at 31 yards I shot a
massive Cape Buffalo. The food and camp felt like home, but many miles away.
Thank you chef Abel for the wonderful meals, true professional.
This hunt I got to return with Brent Warrington, one ofmy hunting buddies from my first trip to Dries Visser
Safaris in 2005. Brent shot an incredible Buffalo. In addition to Brent, Brad Stewart and his son, Jake
joined us for their first Safari.Jake had great success with many plainsgame. WhileBrad shot a Kudu and a huge Buffalo. Aaron Barton,
who runs the best bow shop in Central Texas, also had a very successful first safari and ecperience in the
bushveld. When you invite a group of close friends on a hunt
to the other side of the world you want them to have aexperience that exceeds their expectations. I knew
Dries Visser Safaris was the destination forbow hunting in South Africa. Again, I want to thankthe staff at Dries Visser Safaris for making everyonefeel at home and making all of our trips successful.

This has been a great adventure for me.
Being here with my son madeit extra special.
The PH’s were friendly, especially mine, being very
helpful.Being my first hunting
experience in South Africa, I found it to
be an experience of a lifetime.I was satisfied with the three
animals I harvested.A Gemsbuck, Kudu and Impala. The animals were high quality
animals. The price for the trip hunting
was exceptional.The accommodations were 5
star quality and the food was topof the mark.
My thanks to Dries Visser Safarisfor the high quality service
they provided.I will highly recommend
Dries Visser Safaris to anyonewho shows an interest.

It was my fourth trip with Dries Visser and this time was too special to leave anyting to chance. I brought my ten year old daughter, Hannah, along for the adventure and I trusted no one else to make our safari come
off without a hitch. We wanted to see everything South Africa had to offer, so for the first four days of our adventure we were on photo safari in Kruger Natinal Park. On three of the four days we saw and photographed all of the big five in
additon to hundreds of other plains game species. Finally after thousands of photos, lots of laughs, and grand adventure with our PH and good friend
Antonie Lotter, we headed to Citadel for some fantastic bowhunting action.Day one foud us waiting for Zebra. I wasn’t able to close the deal but it was certainly a great first day.
Normally I come to Africa about a month and a half earlier than we did this year, but on a suggestion from Antonie, we decided to come during the last possible week to hunt with Dries.
Not only was it extremely dry, as was evidenced by the thousands of acres of raging wild fires in the Kruger, but the oppressive summer heat was beginning in earnest and it literally drove animals to water. Each and every day we saw an average of one hundred animals at our water hole. Day two ushered in a grand adventure. Early in the day an ancient warthog boar came to water and I manged to place a lethal
arrow in him. After a short tracking job and some photos we were back in the blind. Later that afternoon we were almost rewarded with the opportunity at a great Gemsbuck but because there were so many animals at the water we couldn’t get a clear shot. A few minutes later two big Eland bulls showed up, watered, but never offered a shot. As one of the bulls was leaving the water, he paused broadside and gave
me a perfect opportunity. After the arrow smashed into the “sweet spot” the bull only ran seventy yards before tipping over in sight. Later that evening, while lounging around the Lodge, Dries questioned me about whether or not Hannah was going to hunt. Since we hadn’t really planned on it, I told him no. His answer to this was pricless, “Every child should hunt!” he said. With this, a plan was hatched to ensure Hannah would be hunting. On day three we began to put the plan into action. It started in earnest right after breakfast.
Antonie took Hannah out to the archery range and had her practice with the crossbow. Since she’s no stranger to a trigger, she shot like a champ. Once in our blind, it wasn’t long before I was at full draw
on a Blue wildebeest bull. After a pinpoint accurate shot we were huddled back in our hot blind. Later in the afternoon Antonie says to Hannah, “here comes your warthog.” She and Antonie readied for the shot while I ran the video camera. After some careful deliberation and a few practice aim and squeeze sessions, Antonie released the safety on the crossbow, coached Hannah to carefully aim, she took up the slack in the trigger,
and shot through the heart of a great boar. Talk about excitment, I still can’t figure out who was more excited between the three of us. The following
morning Hannah and I were sitting in the blind alone for the first time. This was great since we got some quality father and daughter time together. We saw lots of game throughout the day but nothing
that was on my wish list, except for the elusive Zebra. They came in, taunted me, but never offered a proper shot.
Throughout the day I shot lots of photos from the blind and had a great time hanging out with my daughter. At the end of the day nothing had fallen to my arrow but some great memories had been etched in my mind.
In the morning a cold front moved through, bringing with it high winds which slowed animal movement to a minimum. About mid-day a great looking Waterbuck came in and offered me the perfect shot.
Even on the “slow day” we were seeing a huge amount of game. The final day of hunting was truly the “icing on the cake”. We saw lots of game, took some cool pictures of Sable, and laughed a lot. About mid-day a group of Gemsbuck come to water and among them was a really good bull. After a few long and agonizing
minutes he finally offered the perfect broadside shot. By the time photos were taken and the big bull loaded, it left me little hope of tipping over a Zebra on this trip. Fortunately, around 2:30 this thought was completely erased when a big stallion offered me a quartering away shot at the water. Once heart shot, the stallion was
an easy recovery. While departing Citadel the following day, tears were streaming down Hannah’s face and I have to confess my “allergies” were getting the best of me so I was a little teared up as well. The African
bush captivates me... it always has! And now, Hannah has the bug. I don’t know when, but we’ll be back!
