PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Parents, Grandparents and Friends,

After a busy fortnight of very special events, we find ourselves at the end of another wonderful year at Elanora Heights Public School. So much has been achieved throughout the year and there is much to celebrate and be proud of. Our Kindergarten students and their parents have survived their first year of ‘big school’ and next week we farewell our graduating Year 6 students and their families.

These milestones serve as reflection points in our lives and I would like to extend my gratitude to our staff, students and community for their outstanding work throughout the year to deliver on our strategic directions and make this school the very best example of public education. So many programs and initiatives have been implemented this year to provide rich learning experiences, promote wellbeing and create many happy memories for our students.

Along with farewelling our Year 6 students, we will also farewell and send all our best wishes to Kay Millar, Tracey van Niekerk, Andrea Rivas, Jo Argent, Melissa Moss and Leigh Evans-Bullock as they begin new chapters of their lives in 2020. Thank you for your many contributions to our school; you will be greatly missed.

Band End of Year Xmas ConcertLast Sunday it was my great pleasure to attend the annual Band Xmas Concert. It was incredible to hear the progress all band students have made throughout the year. A highlight was definitely a performance from our Year 2 students who have only joined the band this term – very impressive!

Congratulations to Rachel Rule and Jack Tier who have conducted our students this semester, along with Anna Davis for her coordination of our band program. Thank you to the many parents who support this program in so many ways. We look forward to watching our program continue to grow over the coming year. It is never too late to join band!

Presentation Day 2019Congratulations to all award recipients at our Presentation Day Assembly on Tuesday. It was lovely to have our event so strongly supported by our local community leaders with Mr Jason Falinski MP, the Hon. Rob Stokes, Councillor Sue Heins, Mr Andrew Stevenson DEL, Mr Dane Ropa Principal NSHS, Mr John Drake P& C President and Mrs Kay Millar SAM in attendance, for giving their time so generously to support our school.

Presentation Day continued.....My thanks also to the fabulous presentation day team of Jono Rosconi, Laurinda Lomas and Louise Shea for their outstanding preparation and coordination of our assembly, along with the stunning musical items provided by our combined choir, strings and band students and their conductors.

Elaninja Warriors! The weather finally worked in our favour on Wednesday and we were able to run our Elaninja Warrior event in near-perfect conditions! The children (and several staff and parents!) had an absolute ball on the inflatable obstacle course as they challenged themselves to see how many laps they could complete.

An enormous thank you to Laura Smith, Kylie Grewal, Jono Rosconi, Kay Millar, Nicole Graham, Margi Chapman and Janine Ralston for their amazing organisation and communication efforts – we could not have managed the event without you. Thank you also to our incredible school community who raised approximately $20,000 through this event which will go towards supporting our sporting programs and student wellbeing initiatives. Well done, Elanora!

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

The last week…

Next week we will celebrate with our Year 6 students at their farewell dinner dance and assembly. They have been an outstanding group of student leaders throughout 2019 and we wish them all the very best at their chosen high schools.

Our students will be finishing on Wednesday December 18, with our staff working on until Friday as they spend time planning their teaching and learning programs under the guidance of our instructional leaders. All information from this year’s class teachers is also handed over to the new class teachers to ensure our students are well supported as they enter their class groups for 2020.

I would like to wish our staff a relaxing holiday period after a busy year and extend this wish to all of our Elanora family and friends. Thank you for your support throughout the year and we look forward to working in partnership with you again in 2020.

Merry Christmas!

Leesa MartinPrincipal

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS GIFT APPEAL....Stewart House & Bear CottageWe’ve done it again! The Annual Wiseberry Real Estate and SRC Christmas Gift Appeal for 2019 was a resounding success thanks to the generosity of the Elanora Heights School Community!

On behalf of the Student Representative Council, we’d like to sincerely thank you all for getting behind this initiative again for the 7th consecutive year. You have wholeheartedly supported our efforts, not only for the K-2 Gift Appeal but also for the 3-6 gold coin donation for those experience the effects of the bushfires as well as drought. The 3-6 students raised $574 which has been donated to the Bush Fire/Drought appeal.

WELL DONE WARRIORS!Well it was worth the wait! Congratulations to our wonderful students on completing the Elaninja Warrior course last Wednesday December 11.

With the weather finally on our side, the students truly tested their strength and stamina by climbing over obstacles, balancing on beams and sliding down the Big Bopper inflatable at the end! It was great to see so many smiles!

We will be collecting sponsorship money until Monday December 16 and will then calculate the total amount raised and announce the winner of the class prize on Tuesday.

Thank you to everyone for their very generous donations!

Also a very special thank to our volunteers who ensured the students moved around the course in a responsible way. We couldn’t have done it without your help.

... LADIES ON THE LAND & IT’S IN THE BAG APPEALTHANK YOU!!

I would like to extend a HUGE thank you to our school community for their recent support of two initiatives - Share The Dignities “It’s in the Bag” and Ladies of the Land NSW “pamper boxes” with whom I volunteered to collect.

The #itsinthebag Xmas drive aims to make life better for a woman or girl experiencing homelessness or poverty this Christmas. Handbags were filled with personal hygiene products and everyday luxuries for homeless women, women at risk or women experiencing domestic violence. We were able to drop a car boot full of bags to Bunnings for the charity. Amazing!

Ladies of the Land put the call out for people to donate pamper packs consisting of goodies in a shoebox for women living in drought affected areas. In conjunction with the NSW Department of Primary Industries, the CWA, the Flying Doctor Service, and many volunteers, these are distributed to farming women across the state. We were able to send 26 pamper boxes on their way to the distribution point in Orange. Great effort!

Thank you so much to everyone who helped support both of these charities this Christmas season. Your kindness and generosity is greatly appreciated. What an amazing school community we have.

Mrs Rebecca New

I’m delighted to say hello and introduce myself as the incoming P&C President. I am really pleased to be taking on this role and I am very excited to work with a wonderful group of parents, Leesa Martin and her team to continue to create a school environment in which our children can thrive.

I would like to extend my thanks to John Drake for his leadership of the P&C over the last 3 years and I’d like to thank the parents who have volunteered their time to remain on or join our committee next year. I will introduce them all to you early next year. I hope you see a familiar face and that you will feel encouraged to come along to the meetings to join in the conversation, have some fun and share your ideas.

2020 is going to be a big year for our school as we head into our 60th year! We have many exciting things in store. For now, on behalf of the P&C Committee, I’d like to wish you all a very happy and safe holiday break and we will see you recharged and refreshed in 2020.
