SEASONS FOR GROWTH PROGRAMLearning to live with change and loss Change and loss are issues that affect all of us at some stage in our lives. At Elanora Heights P.S. we recognise that when changes occur in families through death, separation, divorce and related circumstances, young people may benefit from learning how to manage these changes effectively.
We are therefore offering a very successful education program called Seasons for Growth which will commence in Week 1 next term. This program will be offered to students in Year 3 or Year 4.
The program is facilitated in small groups and is based on research which highlights the importance of social support and the need to practise new skills to cope effectively with change and loss. The program focuses on issues such as self-esteem, managing feelings, problem-solving, decision-making, effective communication and support networks.
Every family in Year 3 and Year 4 will receive information through their class parent next week with more details about the Seasons for Growth program. If you think your son or daughter would benefit from Seasons for Growth we would encourage you to talk to him/her about participating in the program. Elanora Heights P.S. is pleased to be able to offer this important program and we are confident that it will be a valuable learning experience for those who request to be involved.
Should you require further information please contact Melissa Moss the school counsellor.
If you are interested in your son or daughter participating in the program please email the school at [email protected] or phone on 9913 7283. Melissa Moss

When your child hands in their 20 mini merits, please make sure thatthe mini merit on top has your child’s
first name and surname on it as it makes it very difficultwhen we have many children with the same first name and not one of the
20 mini merits has a surname on it.There may be occasions when we may not be able to work out who the child is
and won’t be able to issue the bronze award till your child comes looking for theirs.

3-6 PUBLIC SPEAKING PROGRAM As part of developing public speaking skills, our school participates in the annual Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition which is conducted in government schools throughout the state. All students are required to participate in the public speaking program at EHPS, however it is not a requirement that all students enter the competition.
All students are required to present two speeches in class:
• a prepared speech from the list of topics given below for competitive speakers or a persuasive topic of choice for non-competitive speakers, and
• an impromptu speech with only five minutes preparation time.
Prepared speeches will take place next term in Weeks 1-4 and impromptu speeches began in class in Week 8. Two of the strongest competitive speakers from each class will be selected to participate in the EHPS school final based on their multicultural speeches. EHPS will send two representatives from Years 3 and 4 and from Years 5 and 6 to the Northern Beaches District finals in Term 2.
