MY BOAT

Let’s go! You are ready for adventure… butyou are no seaman and you have perhapsnever even approached a boat. Do notworry, steering a boat is quite simple andwe will show you the different controls, how to manoeuvre, to steer, to lockthrough and to moor the boat safely. You’llsee, it’s easy! The boat steers with 2controls: a single lever, to go forwards orbackwards and a wheel. That’s it.

Locking through is simple and notdangerous as long as you respect a fewelementary rules.Generally everything is under the control

of a lock keeper who will appreciate ahelping hand from a crew member tohandle the lock doors and sluices whenthese are not automatically operated.

You can see during your cruise a widevariety of water birds such as grey herons, black kites, egrets, wild ducks, kingfishersand wagtails.

You can also meet different kind ofpeople, from barge people to anglers. TheBarge people, whom you do not oftencome across, navigate along the river andcanals to earn their living.. So there is one

golden rule: they always have the right ofway. Anglers do not generally appreciateholidaymakers, but if you leave enoughroom between the bank and the boat, andtravel slowly you can always try to makenew friends by asking: “any bites?"

31

Ready for adventure “Steering a boat is quite simple; just follow a few elementary rules”

You will cruise at an average speed of6km/hour. These holidays will give thechance to “slow down” and change yourlifestyle by watching the beautifullandscape flew by you from your uniqueview abroad the boat. You are free to moor wherever you wantto, in the heart of a town, close to a villageor in the middle of nowhere.

What about gastronomy? There are smallor famous restaurants that each region isproud of, where you can taste local wineor “grand cru” and “cuisine traditonnelle”or “grande cuisine”. In summertime, youcan take part in festivities in differentvillages.

You can also practice your favourite sport:golf, tennis, horse riding, cycling orswimming for a day or two and a tow pathcan be an ideal place for a quiet daily jog.

THE BUOYS

A number of buoys have been given to each boat according to the comfort on board :

1 buoy is for the simpler and older boats with a very goodprice referring to the number of people on board.

2 buoys are for the more functional boats with a goodprice / life on board comfort ratio.

3 buoys are for the boats which offer a more comfortable lifestyle andwhich generally have a second steering position (flying bridge).

4 buoys are for the boats which are very comfortable and re‐cently built. They have additional fittings for increased comfortand all have a second steering position (flying bridge).

« Plus » These boats are at the top of the classification withoutstanding features.

THE CATEGORIES

Our categories, ranging from 1 to 6, correspond to the size of the boats. The category of the boat is used to determinate the security deposit, the hourlynavigation rate, the final cleaning of the boat at the end of the cruise, the CruisePlus insurance (damage waiver) and the all inclusive cruise package.

The PREMIUM fleet : this fleet comprises of all the most comfortable, elegant and spacious boats with special services such as : eachcabin with shower and WC's, DTT and terrestrial TV with flat screen and DVD player in the lounge, freezer, hood , dish washer, coffee

machine, air conditioning, bow thruster, 220V, double steering position, wooden deck furniture with integrated plancha (grill plate), full hotelservice, towels, kitchen clothes and green cleaning set .

The CLASSIC fleet : This fleet includes all the boats typical of canal boating. Easy to handle and traditionally shaped, theseare the perfect boats for family holidays. Linen is part of the hire (blanket, sheets, pillow case and pillow). Towels and kitchen

cloths can be hired at the departure base. A cleaning set is also on sale at the base (See price list).

The BUDGET fleet : This fleet allows you to discover canal boating thanks to its low price. The boats are often older with amore basic level of interior fittings. Bedding is included (blanket, sheets, pillow case and pillow). Towels and kitchen cloths

can be hired at the departure base. A cleaning set is also on sale at the base (see price list). For a minimum price, you can use themaximum legal capacity of the boat by putting a tent on the roof to sleep two people!

Boat scale : about 1/150Pictures and drawings are not contractual.

10 m

5 m1 m

The boat that you choose and hire will beyour “home” during your cruise. Thereforeit is important to make the right choice. Allour boats offer a minimum standard ofcomfort such as running hot and coldwater, shower, toilet, kitchen and heating. The amount of equipment depends on thetype of boat.

The sleeping capacity which is a majorfactor in determining your choice isindicated by the number written before theword “people”.For example: 6/8 + 1 PEOPLE: the firstnumber is for the sleeping capacity withoutusing the lounge. Then the third number isfor an additional berth for a child under 6(it is often a raised bunk in a cabin).

It is never recommended to use themaximum sleeping capacity. The comforton board is in that case reduced and theequipment is generally (fridge, toilets andshower) not enough for one week.

This sign gives you an idea of the ideal number of people on board

for the highest level of comfort.

To help you to choose your boat, we have classed our fleet according to :‐ the services ‐ the level of comfort on board : the buoys ‐ the size : the different categories

USEFUL GUIDE

Pet They are welcome aboard. However, you will be responsiblefor their behaviour. At some bases, an additional fee may becharged.

Package and cleaning deposit The option “final cleaning” allows you to free yourself fromcleaning the boat (inside and / or outside) upon return. If youdo not choose this option, a cleaning deposit will be requiredupon boarding. Order the final cleaning when you reserve yourrental to automatically receive a 25% discount on the amountof the cleaning deposit.

Car transferIn the case of a one‐way cruise, you will be offered on certain bases, the transfer of your car from the departure base to the arrival base. Feevaries according to routes. It is best to book this service in advance. Insome places, shuttle bus, taxi or train can be a possibility.

Car park ‐ Garage Free parking of your vehicle will be possible in many bases. It isoften possible to get locked but uncovered car parking or a garage(an additional charge is requested).

FPP hamper All our bases are located near shopping centres where you can doyour shopping before your departure. However, if you wish, you canorder a hamper when booking. It includes an assortment of basicproducts such as salt, pepper, sugar, condiments, bread, water, vinegar, coffee, tea, milk, yoghurt, salad, eggs, pasta... Ask your travelagent for a complete list of conditions. (On some bases only).

Baby SetIt includes a high chair, a bathtub, a folding cot and a life jacket and inthe case of renting a bicycle, a child seat. Attention : most of the time, the cot can only be installed in the lounge. This set will be at your dis‐posal to make life aboard more pleasant for parents and baby. Do notforget to ask when booking. It is free wherever it is offered.

Waterway mapAll boats are equipped with a manual offering a number of navigationalhints and details. However, if you want to prepare your cruise, you canorder a waterway map when booking. There is a map for eachwaterway. Attention : on certain routes two maps may be necessary.

Hourly navigation rate Initially, the fuel tank is full. You will be billed on your return at ahourly navigation rate. This rate is different depending on the typeof boat and the number of hours navigated. It covers theconsumption of oil, fuel, etc ... Count about 30 hours of navigationper week. The price of this rate may change with the price of fuel. On some bases, you can purchase an “hourly navigation rate”package before departure, regardless of the number ofhours done.

LocksThe locking through is free in France. The locks are normally opendaily from 9 am to 7 pm, sometimes more. On some routes, thereare restrictions like Easter Sunday, 1 May, 14 July and 1 Novemberor different schedules depending on the season. Ask your travel agent.

Floods and droughtSome rivers and some canals are subject to flooding or watershortages, mainly in spring and autumn. These events mayforce us to move the place of departure and you will thencruise on another waterway. In all cases, changes to the pointof departure or the proposed circuit do not constitute asgrounds for cancellation or refunds.

Boat licenseFor customers who do not have a licence a temporary card willbe issued for the duration of stay after we have shown youhow to operate the boat. As for the handling of the boat, donot worry, it is fairly simple and each team on the bases willtake the time necessary to show how different equipmentworks and to teach the driving and mooring manoeuvres.

Water / GasThe water tank of your boat is full before your departure. Agas bottle of 13 kg is provided for heating and cooking.

EnergyThe boats are not energy independent. There are essentiallythree sources : • The gas supplied by bottles supplying refrigerators (in somecases) and heaters, cooking plates, ovens. • The electricity is very often 12 volts or 24 volts and is storedin batteries, which supply some refrigerators, lighting andventilation, and in some cases 220 volts, air conditioning, dishwasher, etc…• The engine, which produces heat for hot water and, due toa generator, produces the electricity stored in batteries. Energy is scarce, and despite all the tricks used by boat builders, itcannot be used without restraint or provide the same comfort asin a house. It is therefore necessary to know : • That the engines must run at least 4 to 5 hours per day toproduce electricity for use over 24 hours. • That the gas refrigerators (standard camping gas) are lesseffective in high external heat and should not be overloaded, the door must be opened as infrequently as possible. • What appliances using 220 volts must be used when cruisingor dockside, on a shore power when it exists, and they can notbe used simultaneously (example : air conditioning +dishwasher). In some areas, shore supply is hard to find or insome ports, the amperage too low to use the equipment onboard. • That the 220 volt plugs, where they exist, can only be usedwhen connected to the shore supply. • Water supplies from 200 to 1400l allow autonomy for at least 2 days. • The fuel reserves allow autonomy of 60 hours, about 2 weeks.

Strong winds Navigation on the Etang de Thau, in the Camargue, on lakes inGermany, including Müritzsee and Plauersee is made more difficultby strong winds, and demands all the vigilance of the driver. Inwind of over 4 Beaufort, we ask you to moor in a port and wait forthe wind to drop. In the case of the Etang de Thau, the one‐waytrip between the Canal du Rhône à Sète and the Canal du Midi maybe cancelled due to climatic conditions.

One‐way cruiseGiven the hazards that can occur, a one way holiday and itsdirection can not be confirmed until 48 hours before departureand an additional charge is requested before boarding. The one‐way cruises are not possible with a fleet of more than 2 boats oncertain bases.

Our boats can be rented by a minimum of 2 people (1 adultand 1 child over 16 years).

Bicycle : There are three ranges of bicycles ‐ Basic range : these are bikes that are suitable to go shopping, but are not suitable for rough terrain. ‐ Mountain bike range : These are aluminium frame bike withgears for paths. ‐ Junior Range : to provide the best bike for your child, pleasegive us his height.

Fishing rodFishing rods are available at some departure bases. The setincludes a fishing rod and a new line (service charged). Rememberto bring your bait.

Fishing licence A fishing license (tax) is generally required to fish in canals andrivers. Some bases can get it for you. Book it before you leave.

Technical assistanceDespite the care we provide for the maintenance of our boats, mechanics can sometimes be whimsy. In case of breakdown,a technical assistance is available 7 days a week.

INVENTORYINSURANCE

TO READ CAREFULLY

bow thrusterSome boats on some bases are equipped with a bowpropeller. This is a propeller placed in the bow of the boatwhich allows steering the bow laterally. This greatlyfacilitates manoeuvres. However, its use is mainly sensitivein canals in which the risk of aspiration of mud and rocksalong the bank is important. In case of breakdown duringthe cruise, it is often impossible to repair. In this case, thestay will end without a bow thruster. If the customerrequires repair during the stay, it will be billed to him. Dueto the vagaries of navigation, it is possible that the boatwith bow thruster that you reserved is not available the dayof departure. In this case, it will be deducted on the basisof a fixed amount (maximum 10 euros per day).

Beds‐ There is no standard length and width of berth for boats.

The average length is 1.90m but in some cases may belimited to 1.83m.

‐ Double berths : they are on average 1.40m wide, but canbe reduced to 1.15m

‐ Berths simple : they are on average 0, 80m, but in somecases they can be reduced down to 0.65m.

‐ Convertible seat in lounge or dinette.

Heating and air conditioning‐ All boats are equipped with forced air heating. This is an

element of comfort to warm up the inside of the boat. However, it does not maintain a constant temperature.

‐ Air conditioning : This option, often limited to the lounge isan element of comfort that can cool the atmosphere by se‐veral degrees, 2 or 3 maximum, rather than maintainconstant temperature, whatever the outside temperature.

‐ The Tarpon 49 Quattro Prestige, Tarpon 42 Trio Prestige andTarpon 37 Duo Prestige have air conditioning in the lounge.

Insurance The FPP fleet is fully insured. However, we hope you willtake care of the boat and its equipment. The insuranceincludes a franchise and as such, a security deposit will besought in all cases before boarding. Boat insurance does not cover the hirer and his crew, theirresponsibility towards others and their belongings.

Cruise Plus InsuranceThis insurance (damage waiver) covers interruption of cruise, broken propeller, cycling, and physical injury and guarantees arefund. It does not dispense you from the payment of thedeposit before boarding and is the subject of a collectivecontract (copy of the general conditions on request).

Boat security depositThe amount varies by type of boat. This deposit is paidbefore boarding, it covers the franchise and is returned onreturn of the boat, if the boat and its equipment have notbeen damaged. Caution : this deposit must be paid in allcases, including in the case of a subscription to theinsurance Cruise Plus.

Cancellation insuranceCancellation insurance allows you to obtain the refund ofamounts paid in certain cases of cancellation (see generalconditions of hire).
