Our Program: Chris Worden, Future Ready

Chris Worden, CEO of Future Ready gave an informative presentation on his

organization’s strategy to connect students studying engineering, science and

technology to work-based learning internships and job training.

Future Ready is a non-profit dedi-

cated to bringing business owners

and young adults entering the pro-

fessional work force together

through mutually beneficial intern-

ship programs. Junior and senior

high school students in the Engi-

neering, Science and Technology

Academy at River City High School

are provided high-quality, work-

based learning opportunities that align with their curriculum.

Through paid internships with local engineering, science and advanced-

manufacturing companies, students will be prepared for success in an entry

level job and/or post-secondary education. Employers will benefit by having

increased access to a local labor pool that has completed industry-relevant

academic coursework and has previous on-the-job experience. Interns re-

ceive “digital badges”, like a modern-day merit badge, to demonstrate their

proven competence in skill sets most in demand by today’s employers.

Delta High School Students of the Month Brenna Romo and

Celine Rubalcava, with Principal (and visiting Rotarian) Laura

Uslan

Celine is a junior and is the ASB Spirit Chair.

Brenna is a senior and is the ASB President.

Both students gave an update on events and ac-

tivities at Delta. Our Student of the Month Pro-

gram is skillfully managed by Joanie Kapell

and JoAnn Moffit. Thanks, Joanie, for intro-

ducing the students and thanks to both of you

for your ongoing efforts on behalf of the Club.

(clockwise from right) Andy Wallace sets the tempo as he

leads us in a “seasonal” song. Ike Parsons and Jeff Post

impatiently await the (late) start of the meeting. Dustin

Dumars (filling in for Chris Bradford) and Peter Ander-

son man the business table (note the time on the clock) and

someone hastily checks the deck to assure the Joker really

is in the deck before the “door prize” drawing happens...

SUPPORT THE CHRIST-

MAS BASKET PROJECT IN

WEST SAC!!

Tim Carnahan models the “Mad Hatter”

look as he collects for the Christmas Basket

Project.

West Sacramento Rotary has been helping

with the project since its infancy. For 23

years in a row the club has increased the

amount of its donation.

Benefiting are 650 West Sacramento sin-

gles and families, many of them elderly, who

have signed up to receive a box of assorted

food items as 'Christmas baskets.

Remember to give! You can also write a

check to either the Christmas Basket Project

or to the Rotary Club and have a record of

your donation for your taxes.

! D O N A T E !

We will pass the hat at four consecu-

tive meetings before Christmas. All

the money that is raised is then

matched by the club and then given to

the Christmas Food Basket Project.

Each year our club has set a record

for funds raised for this project..

Counting backwards from the week

before Christmas for four meetings.

Tim Carnahan and Marty Garozzo

have managed and promoted this wor-

thy effort on behalf of the Club. Dig

into your pockets this Holiday Season

and chip in when Tim and Marty pass

the hat
