STAYING SAFE at PUBLIC WORSHIP

Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Louisville, KY

From the Office of Mission Advancement “For as the rain and snow come down from the heaven and do not return there till they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful.... so shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth. My word shall not return to me empty, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:10-11

Stewardship is what we do with our lives after we say, “I believe.” The word of God is only fulfilled when we act on it. Does our faith bear fruit in our gifts of time, talent, and treasure?

Based on reflections prepared by Fr. Thomas Gentile and the Office of Mission Advancement.

July 12 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time Isaiah 55:10–11 Romans 8:18–23 Matthew 13:1–23 Jesus said, “Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked hem. Other seeds fell on good soil and brought forth grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”

Question of the Week: Adult: How do you provide “good soil” for the faith of others to grow?

Child: What are you doing to help the seeds of your faith grow each day?

RCIA The RCIA: A Journey of Faith Jesus invited His first followers to “Come, follow me”. This invokes an image of journey and has been used to describe Christian discipleship. Each of us are on a faith journey. This journey is marked with moments of conversion along the way. It begins with unbelief to initial faith, from sin to repentance, from painful isolation to the

joyful experience of a loving community, from fear to love. Our RCIA sessions provide a setting where the journey of faith and moments of conversion are celebrated within our Lourdes faith community. Our “no strings” inquiry series is an on-going process that is ideal for learning about Catholicism, and for Catholics who have not yet received Eucharist and/or Confirmation. If you would like to join us on this journey of a lifetime, please contact Doug Wolz at 896.0241.

Preschool Openings Our Lady of Lourdes Preschool has expanded for this upcoming year and has a few spots open in the 4-year-old program. If you are looking for a fun-loving environment that is also academically rigorous, Lourdes is the place to be! For more information, please contact Dana Payton or Teresa Roehrig at 502.893. 5881. We look forward to serving you and your family!

Safe Environment Workshop Update The Archdiocese of Louisville is committed to ensuring that children and youth who worship, study or participate in church-sponsored activities can do so in the safest and most secure setting possible. In an effort to fulfill this commitment, all volunteers who have contact with children or youth (18 and under) for ANY length of time are required to participate in one of the 2-hour Safe Environment Training

Workshops. The schedule for workshops can be found at: https://www.archlou.org/about-the-archdiocese/archdiocesan-policies-guidelines-and-handbooks/restoringtrust/safe/. No registration is needed to attend a workshop; however, participation may be limited to 50 and masks are required. If you do not have a mask, one will be provided.

Fifteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time July 12, 2020

Dignity Beyond the Debate What does it mean to love our neighbors in the midst of such a divisive climate? Catholics are called to bring the best of ourselves and our faith to the public square—and yet today, many shy away from such involvement because our national and local conversations are filled with anger and harsh

language, often directed at people themselves. As Catholics, we must model a better way. We invite you to model love for neighbor by pledging to Civilize It and committing to civility, clarity, and compassion this election year. Civilize It: Dignity Beyond the Debate is a non-partisan call to focus on the dignity of all people, even those with whom we disagree, and to put faith in action. Make room in your heart for those with whom you disagree and pledge dignity beyond the debate today at CivilizeIt.org!

Pull Tabs This is a friendly reminder that we collect pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. They recycle them and use the money to purchase snacks and other foods to stock their residents’ kitchens. When you are enjoying a cold beverage

this summer remember to save those pull tabs to help those with children in the hospital. Pull tabs may be dropped off at the Parish Office.

Mission Trip We are happy to announce that OLOL Youth Ministry will be taking a mission trip to Appalachia through Hand in Hand Ministries later this summer! Our youth are excited and looking forward to the trip. The food pantry at the Auxier mission is already fully stocked, so instead of food donations, Hand in Hand has asked for items from their Amazon Wish List, which can be found on the parish homepage. Some of the items include smaller things such as tools, measuring tapes, hammers, razer blades, first aid, etc. Other items not on the list but would be greatly appreciated include: toiletries (shampoo, deodorant, razors), household cleaners, bleach, etc. Please bring your donations to the Gathering Space on July 17 & 18. Thank you for your support! Contact Bill Ash with questions, [email protected].

Parish Staff Changes July has brought some changes/additions to the parish office staff. Gregory DuPont has moved to the Parish Director position, where he will manage the business side of the parish, guide the parish mission, and assist in development and long range planning. Prior to his career in music ministry, Gregory served as the business/marketing manager for an engineering firm and owned a successful café before returning to Louisville. He will continue to be a resource for liturgy and worship. Sarah Tonini joins the staff as the Coordinator of Liturgy and Worship, where she will manage the scheduling system for liturgical ministers and the administrative functions associated with Worship, as well as lead our many musical groups. Sarah studied music in NYC and has been a member of our adult choir for many years. And Jennifer Stratman has come over from the parish school, where she served as a para educator. Jennifer will assume the duties of Director of Family Ministry. She will coordinate sacrament preparation and religious education for children. Welcome Gregory, Sarah, and Jennifer!

Family Ministries Marriage Moments “All Creation is groaning in labor pains...we also groan within ourselves as we wait for...the redemption of our bodies.” (Romans 8:18- 22-23) As we humans continue to groan about Covid-19, we wait. We wait for a vaccine, for return to normal, or even an improvement on the normalcy of the past. We groan, and we pray that our labor pains may bring to birth a better world.

Parent Pointers Sometimes parents’ words fall on children as if they were deaf and blind. “Clean up your room.” “Don't fight with your sister.” “I need help with dinner.” “Huh?” This is a challenge to a parent’s creativity in phrasing the ask or imposing a consequence for non-compliance.
