Every February, we are asked to remember
the many African-Americans in our country
who struggled for “civil rights.”

What are “civil rights?”
![Page 4: OUR NATION CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORY MONTH this FEBRUARY!](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022062301/56815dab550346895dcbdd31/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
These are the freedoms that many of us take
for granted…
![Page 5: OUR NATION CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORY MONTH this FEBRUARY!](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022062301/56815dab550346895dcbdd31/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
They include the freedom to go to school
where we want to…

To work at a job of our choice and interest…

To live in a house and neighborhood where
we want…

And to vote for our own leaders.
![Page 9: OUR NATION CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORY MONTH this FEBRUARY!](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022062301/56815dab550346895dcbdd31/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
But not everyone in our country has
always been treated equally.
![Page 10: OUR NATION CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORY MONTH this FEBRUARY!](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022062301/56815dab550346895dcbdd31/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Sometimes, African-Americans were treated differently and unfairly.

Not everyone has enjoyed
these “civil rights.”
![Page 12: OUR NATION CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORY MONTH this FEBRUARY!](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022062301/56815dab550346895dcbdd31/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)

who fought for equality.
