Our Mistresses of Ceremonies

Candace Osteen is a Starke native and has beeninvolved with pageantry for 10 years. She has beeninvolved in every aspect of pageantry fromcompeting to coaching and even producing.

She was a part of the Miss Florida Organization for4 years and competed with the titles MissMandarin, Miss Ocala Marion County, Miss St.Augustine and Miss Jacksonville. She is agraduate of Florida Community College atJacksonville and is currently finishing her Bachelordegree at the University of North Florida.

Candace is a newlywed and is loving every minuteof married life.

Candace O’Steen

As an entertainer and actor, Michelle Miller has beenperforming for over 20 years. Her music highlights includeperformances with the Jacksonville Jaguars, AmericanMusic Jubilee Theater, PBR Tour, Concert on the Green,Orlando Magic and USO events. She performed and co-produced the USO 65th Anniversary Celebration, whichstarred Ed McMahon, and Mickey & Jan Rooney.

Michelle enjoys staying busy filming commercials,corporate films, recording voiceovers, and serving asprofessional host/emcee. Highlights include GriffinLincoln Mercury, Stewart Lighting One, KossakCompanies, American Home Builders, Annie OAKley’s,Sunbelt National Music Video, WJXT Auctioneer & HBOmovie “Recount”.

Being no stranger to the pageant community, she has servedas Jacksonville Miss TEEN, Florida Miss TEEN, NationalTop Ten Finalist, Miss Florida Community College atJacksonville, and Florida Azalea Queen. Proudly callingJacksonville home, Michelle is represented by First CoastTalent Agency.

Our Panel of JudgesFred Ryan HunterFred Hunter is a Management Consultantworking with professionals and businessorganizations as a business mentor andcoach. Fred graduated from WashburnUniversity, Topeka, Kansas receiving aBachelor of Business AdministrationDegree. Fred has directed, produced, andjudged numerous Miss America LocalPreliminary scholarship pageants inKansas, Georgia and Florida for over 10years. He served three years as aRegional Field Director for the Miss KansasScholarship Pageant. In addition, heserved three years as a Kansas Delegate tothe Miss America Scholarship Pageant inAtlantic City, and four years as a Delegateto the Miss Florida Scholarship Pageant.Fred and his wife Sandy will be delegatesto the 2008 Miss America Pageant in LasVegas. He is an active Board member withthe Miss Tallahassee/Miss North FloridaFair/Miss Capital City, Miss Gulf coastscholarship programs serving as theirDirector of Business Relations. Fred is aqualified Miss America judge.

Ilona Hagen (Conway)Ilona Hagen (Conway) is no stranger to the Miss America Program.She celebrated her 25th anniversary of her crowning as Miss Indiana1982 this year. Her pageant experience allowed her to compete inthe National Sweetheart Pageant in Hoopston, Illinois, where shewas chosen as Miss Congeniality in 1980, and first runner-up in1981. Ilona was also a part of “The Queens” Department of Defensetour, which included semi-finalist, Bobbie Eakes, Miss Georgia. Thisgroup traveled and performed at military installations in Iceland,Germany, the Netherlands, and the Azores. She has also judged,performed, or acted as Mistress of Ceremonies at various pageantsin Indiana, Kenducky, and Florida. She was a judge at the localpageant of Ericka Dunlap who went on to become Miss Florida andthen Miss America!

Having been away from the pageant scene for awhile, Ilona hasbeen concentrating on her career. She went back to school andreceived her teaching certification from Nova Southeastern Universityin 1999. For the past seven years she has been teaching fourthgrade students at a Title I elementary school that her own childrenattended. In 2004, Ilona was selected as “Teacher of the Year” ather school and went on to be named one of the five finalists for“Clay County Teacher of the Year”. She currently resides in OrangePark, Florida, with her husband, Dan, and children, daughter Jordan(17), who will be a senior, and her son Jacob (15) who will be asophomore.

Virginia Crawford DenmarkVirginia Crawford Denmark began her association with the Miss Florida Pageantas a contestant. Holding four local titles, she twice placed in the Top Ten atMiss Florida and also was awarded the Hostess Award, which was the MissFlorida Hostess’ choice for Miss Florida. Virginia reigned as Miss Alachua County,Miss Jacksonville, Miss Jacksonville University and Miss Olustee Festival. Amagna cum laude graduate of Jacksonville University, Virginia uses herCommunications degree in their family-owned business CellRite.

Virginia volunteers with the Sunshine Princess Program during Miss FloridaPageant week. Her daughter, Victoria, has twice been a Miss Florida SunshinePrincess, and was also an Inaugural Miss America Outstanding Teen Princess.A high point in Virginia’s judging experience was having the privilege to judgeMiss Florida Kylie Williams when she won her Miss Tallahassee title. Virginiaenjoys developing fundraising projects for the children’s school. She and herhusband Terry have four children: Dusty, Ashley, Victoria and Preston. Theyare very active in their church and community.

Gayle HartGayle is presently the Director of Marketingfor the Greater Jacksonville Agricultural Fairand Expo Center. Ranked among NorthAmerica’s 50 largest fairs, it draws nearly500,000 people to downtown Jacksonvilleover a 12 day period every fall.

Currently serving as President of JAXMAC(Jacksonville Marketing and AdvertisingClub), Ms. Hart has won internationalrecognition by winning the OutstandingMedia Campaign twice from theInternational Association of Fair and ExposAnnual Convention in Las Vegas. Inaddition, she has accumulated 22 firstplace awards from the Florida Festivals andEvents Association for the GreaterJacksonville Fair media campaigns.

A native of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Gaylehas a B.A. from Southwestern OklahomaState University in Technical Theatre andEnglish. Prior to living and working inJacksonville, Gayle worked for BalletOklahoma under the artistic direction ofEdward Villella.

Gayle has lived in Jacksonville with herhusband Erik (executive Director of theFlorida Theater and their three sons,Chuck, Russell and Derek, since 1987.

Pamela E. AdamsPamela Adams is a native Floridian, a graduate of Lynn University with adegree in Business and Marketing. She lives in North Palm Beach, Florida,with her husband, Charles Adams. For the past 35 years, she and herhusband have owned and operated South Palm Construction, a generalcontracting company. Mrs. Adams is a licensed Florida Real Estate Brokerand a former flight attendant for Delta Airlines. She is presently a Trusteeand the Chairman-elect for the South Florida Fair and Exposition.

Mrs. Adams is a former President of the Junior League of the Palm Beaches.She has been involved with The Miss America system for 15 years. Mrs.Adams is experienced in dance and has performed and taught classical ballet.She was the travel companion for Miss Florida and had the privilege ofaccompanying Ericka Dunlap when she was crowned Miss America in 2004.

NORMA STORMS - REGIONAL DIRECTORNorma resides on Amelia Island and serves on the Miss Florida Board as Field Director which includespageants in the Jacksonville area. She received her Bachelors Degree from Florida Southern College, whereshe graduated as Valedictorian. She has a Masters Degree in Personnel and Guidance. She has been involvedwith the Miss America Pageant system for nearly twenty years. During this time she has helped manycontestants prepare for competition; she has judged numerous pageants and has served as an ExecutiveDirector for a local pageant. She is proud to be a part of the Organization that is considered the largestsource of scholarship opportunities for young women in the world.
