Fall Sunday School The date for the beginning of our Fall Quarter Sunday School beginning

has been changed to September 6. On August 30, we will be having

Morning Prayer and no Sunday School (Adult or Children). After the ser-

vice, our final Parish Picnic for this season will be at Eastwood Park, Mad

River Shelter (same place we’ve been to before). A shorter service that

day, with no Sunday School, should give everyone plenty of time to pack a

picnic lunch to share and enjoy a great time of fellowship at the end of

the summer.

Upcoming Dates:

AUGUST DATES to remember

Sun, August 30 - Final summer Parish picnic - Eastwood Park

Watch over your child, O Lord, as his days increase; bless and guide him

wherever he may be, keeping him unspotted from the world. Strengthen

him when he stands; comfort him when discouraged or sorrowful; raise

him up if he falls; and in his heart may thy peace which passes under-

standing abide all the days of his life; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Announcements.

Processional Song. I Sing the Almighty Power of God

I sing the almighty pow'r of God,

That made the mountains rise,

That spread the flowing seas abroad

And built the lofty skies.

I sing the wisdom that ordained

The sun to rule the day;

The moon shines full at his command,

And all the stars obey.

I sing the goodness of the Lord,

That filled the earth with food;

He formed the creatures with his Word,

And then pronounced them good.

Lord, how thy wonders are displayed,

Where e'er I turn my eye,

If I survey the ground I tread,

Or gaze upon the sky!

There's not a plant or flow'r below,

But makes thy glories known;

And clouds arise, and tempests blow,

By order from thy throne;

While all that borrows life from thee

Is ever in thy care,

And everywhere that I could be,

Thou, God, art present there.

The Collect for Purity Praying together

Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and

from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by

the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you,

and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Summary of the Law

Hear what our Lord Jesus Christ said.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your

soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great command-

ment. And the second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as

yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the

Prophets. (St. Matthew 22:37-40)

PARISH NEWS

A Prayer for The New School Year

As our teachers and students begin a new school year, please keep them all in your prayers – from pre-school to college. Our college students here and away are Susie Herman, Emma Sum, and Emma Veley – Wright State; Michael Evanhoe – Sinclair; Lydia Mathis – Belhaven University; and Jessie Evanhoe – Columbus College of Art and Design. In addition, we have students at Dominion Academy, Dayton Christian, Troy Christian, Fairborn, Holy Angels, and numerous home-schoolers. We have teachers at Dominion Academy, Fairborn, and Dayton Christian.

Almighty and Everlasting God, we thank you for the gift of those who teach and those who learn. We thank you that you have entrusted us with the training and educating of children, and we ask your favor on our schools and on our teachers and educators, that knowledge may be increased among us and good learning may flourish. We pray that you will bless and direct those to whom the office of teacher is committed, giving them wisdom to understand the varied scene of life and to under-stand the aspirations and needs of learners. We ask that you would protect and defend our children and give them your blessing as they study to prepare for their place in this world. Finally, we commit our schools and our teachers and our children to you in confidence that you love them even more than we do and we rest in that knowledge, through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

PRAYER GROUP FORMING Rachel's Hope is a prayer group for moms (or grandmothers or other in-

terested women) whose teenage/adult children are struggling with adult

issues that are impacting their faith walk and their lives. Based upon Jer-

emiah 31:15-17, we can pray with hope that our children will come back

to their own country. The battle many of our children face is spiritual,

therefore, we must fight the battle with spiritual weapons and never stop

praying for them. Please join us on August 25th at 9:30am at the home of

Ronda Sturgill. 2493 Quail Run Rd., Fairborn, OH 45324 Feel free to in-

vite friends from other churches and congregations. Please see Ronda if

you have any questions.

our Redeemer, Defender, Protector, and Avenger, we pray for Your

people who are victims of violence and hatred and are oppressed

and injured by their fellow humans. Give strength and encourage-

ment to them by Your Holy Spirit. Look upon them and help us to

honor those who are suffering or have died in Your service. Comfort

their families and give them courage. Thwart the oppressors and

call them to repentance, but if they will not repent, we commit

them to Your justice. All this we pray through the same, Jesus Christ

our Lord. Amen

The Collect for Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Grant, O merciful God, that your Church, being gathered together in unity by your Holy Spirit, may show forth your power among all peoples, to the glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

The First Lesson. I Kings 8.22-30, 41-43

Lector. This is the Word of the Lord.

Answer. Thanks be to God.

The Psalm. Psalm 84

How Dear Your Dwelling Place (Ps 84)

How dear your dwelling place to me,

O Lord of hosts, my king;

My soul desires the courts of God

Whose praise my heart will sing.

The sparrow now has found a house,

The swallow has a nest

Where she may lay her young, O Lord,

And by your altar rest.

Happy are those who dwell with you

And always sing your praise;

Happy the ones you strengthen, Lord,

With hearts set on your ways.

In lonely valleys they will find

A place of pools and springs,

And as they climb to Zion's heights

They see the King of kings.

O God of Jacob, hearken now;

Lord hear the prayer I bring;

Behold our shield, O God, look down

On your anointed King.

For better one day in your courts

Than thousands far away,

And at your threshold, Lord to stand

Than in false tents to stay.

The Lord, our sun and shield, will give

Us grace, withhold no need

From those who walk with him; their trust

In him is blest indeed. Words: Christopher L. Webber. Used by permission.

The Second Lesson. Ephesians 6.10-20

Lector. This is the Word of the Lord.

Answer. Thanks be to God.

The Gradual

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet

And a light unto my path

21

Recessional. O Christ Our Hope

O Christ our hope, our heart's desire,

Redemption's only spring;

Creator of the world art thou,

Its Savior and its King.

How vast the mercy and the love

Which laid our sins on thee.

And led thee to a cruel death

To set thy people free.

But now the bonds of death are burst,

The ransom has been paid;

And thou art on thy Father's throne

In glorious robes arrayed.

O may thy mighty love prevail

Our sinful souls to spare,

O may we come before thy throne

And find acceptance there!

O Christ, be thou our present joy,

Our future great reward;

Our only glory may it be

To glory in the Lord!

All praise to thee, ascended Lord;

All glory ever be

To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost

Through all eternity!

The Dismissal

Celebrant. Let us go forth rejoicing in the power

of the Holy Spirit. Alleluia! Alleluia!

People. Thanks be to God. Alleluia! Alleluia!

Heavenly Father, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual

food of the most precious Body and Blood of your Son our Savior

Jesus Christ; and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that we are

living members of the Body of your Son, and heirs of your eternal

kingdom. And now, Father, send us out into the world to do the

work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful wit-

nesses of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be

honor and glory, now and forever. Amen.

Priest. The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ

according to St. John 6.56-69

People. Glory to you, Lord Christ.

After the Gospel, the Reader says

Priest. The Gospel of the Lord.

People. Praise to you, Lord Christ.

The Children’s Sermon

The Sermon

Nicene Creed

Let us confess our faith in the words of the Nicene Creed.

Celebrant and People

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven

and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally

begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God

from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father;

through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he

came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and

the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified

under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the

third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he as-

cended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his

kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who pro-

10

ceeds from the Father [and the Son], who with the Father and the

Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the proph-

ets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We

acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for

the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.

Amen. The filioque [and the Son] is not in the original Greek text. Nevertheless, in the Western Church the filioque

[and the Son] is customary at worship and is used for the explication of doctrine [39 Articles of Religion].

The operative resolution of the College of Bishops concerning use of the filioque is printed with the Gen-

eral Instructions at the end of the Holy Communion, Long Form.

The Prayers of the People

Let us pray for the whole state of Christ’s Church and the world.

Almighty and ever-living God, in your holy Word you have taught

us to offer prayers and requests, and to give thanks for all whom

you have made. We appeal to your mercy, Gracious Lord, that you

might hear our prayer.

Reader. Lord, in your mercy,

People. hear our prayer.

Inspire your universal Church by your Spirit, granting that all who

confess your holy Name may agree in the truth of your holy Word

and live in unity and godly love.

Reader. Lord, in your mercy,

People. hear our prayer.

Give grace, heavenly Father, to all Bishops, Priests, and Deacons,

and especially to your servant(s) Foley, our Archbishop, Royal, our

Presiding Bishop, Daniel, our Bishop Ordinary and Peter, our Suffra-

gan Bishop, that by their life and teaching, they may proclaim your

true and life-giving Word, and rightly administer your holy Sacra-

ments.

Reader. Lord, in your mercy,

People. hear our prayer.

I am the bread of life;

They who come to me shall not hunger;

They who believe in me shall not thirst,

No one can come to me

Unless the Father draw them.

And I will raise them up,

And I will raise them up,

And I will raise them up on the last day.

The Bread that I will give

Is my Flesh for the life of the world,

And they who eat of this bread,

Open The Eyes Of My Heart

Open the eyes of my heart Lord

Open the eyes of my heart

I want to see You

I want to see You 11

Help us to fulfill your great commission; making disciples of all na-

tions; teaching them to obey all that you have commanded.

Reader. Lord, in your mercy,

People. hear our prayer.

We ask you to rule the hearts of all who govern us, (our President,

the Congress, the Supreme Court, our Governor and our military

leaders) . May they administer justice, govern wisely, and strive for

the welfare and peace of the whole world.

Reader. Lord, in your mercy,

People. hear our prayer.

Grant your heavenly grace to all people, especially these gathered

here, that with meek and reverent hearts, we may hear and trust

your holy Word, devoting our lives to your righteous service.

Reader. Lord, in your mercy,

People. hear our prayer.

We humbly ask you, gracious Lord, to comfort and strengthen all

those who, in this earthly life are in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness,

or any other adversity.

**Reader. I invite you to add your own requests at this time.**

Reader. Lord, in your mercy,

People. hear our prayer.

We bless your holy Name for all your servants who departed this

life in your faith and fear, praying you would grant us grace to fol-

low their good examples, that with them we might partake in your

heavenly kingdom.

Reader. Lord, in your mercy,

People. hear our prayer.

Grant these our prayers, O Father, for Jesus Christ’s sake, our only

The Confession and Absolution of Sin

We pray to you also for the forgiveness of our sins.

The Deacon and People kneel as able and pray

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in

thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we

have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we

have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and

we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mer-

cy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk

in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

The Bishop or Priest stands and says

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who in his great mercy has

promised forgiveness of sins to all those who sincerely repent and

with true faith turn to him, have mercy upon you, pardon and de-

liver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all good-

ness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our

Lord. Amen.

The Peace

Celebrant. The Peace of the Lord be always with

you.

People. And with your spirit.

Then the Ministers and People may greet one another in the name of the Lord.

The Offertory

how he said, it is more blessed to give than to receive.

People. Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia!

The Prayer of Humble Access Celebrant and People praying together

We do not presume to come to this your table, merciful Lord, trust-

ing in our own righteousness, but in your abundant and great mer-

cies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under

your table. But you are the same Lord, who always delights in

showing mercy. Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the

flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ and to drink his blood, that our

sinful bodies may be made clean by his body, and our souls washed

through his most precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell

in him, and he in us. Amen.

The Celebrant may pray the following prayer

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and

the victory, and the majesty: for everything in heaven and on earth

is yours; yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as Head

above all.

Praying together

All things come from you, O Lord, and of your own have we given

you. Amen. (1 Chronicles 29:11, 14)

Then the Celebrant will say,

Our fellow Christians of other branches of Christ’s Church, who

have been Baptized in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and

of the Holy Spirit, are affectionately invited to the Lord’s Table.

The Sursum Corda (Lift Up Your Hearts) The People remain standing. The Celebrant faces them and sings or says

Celebrant. The Lord be with you.

People. And with your spirit.

Celebrant. Lift up your hearts.

People. We lift them to the Lord.

Celebrant. Let us give thanks to the Lord our

God.

People. It is just and right so to do.

It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to

give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.

Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Arch-

angels and with all the company of heaven, who forever sing this

hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

The Prayer of Consecration

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, in your tender mercy, you

gave your only Son Jesus Christ to suffer death upon the cross for

our redemption. He offered himself and made, once for all time, a

perfect and sufficient sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. He

instituted this remembrance of his passion and death, which he

commanded us to continue until he comes again. So now, Father,

we ask you to bless and sanctify, with your Word and Holy Spirit,

these gifts of bread and wine that we may partake of his most

blessed Body and Blood.

On the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took

bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave it to

his disciples, saying, “Take, eat; this is my Body which is given for

you: Do this in remembrance of me.”

After supper, Jesus took the cup, and when he had given thanks,

he gave it to them, saying, “Drink this, all of you; for this is my

Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many,

for the forgiveness of sins: Whenever you drink it, do this in re-

membrance of me.” Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:

Celebrant and People praying together

Christ has died.

Christ is risen.

Christ will come again.

The Celebrant continues

Lord and heavenly Father, with these holy gifts we celebrate the

memorial instituted by your beloved Son, remembering his passion

and death, his resurrection and ascension, and his promise to come

again. Grant that by his merits and death, and through faith in his

Blood, we and your whole Church may receive forgiveness of our

sins and all other benefits of his passion, making us one body with

him that he may dwell in us, and we in him. And here we offer to

you, O Lord, ourselves, our souls and bodies, to be a living sacrifice,

through Jesus Christ our Lord. By him and with him and in him, in
