Our Enduring Mission.The recent difficult decision to sell our Horsham campus reflects an evolution in how we serve our community’s seniors – but our historic mission is unchanged. At Abramson Senior Care, we will continue to enhance the lives of seniors and caregivers by partnering in their personal journeys, providing extraordinary care, and rooting our approach in Jewish values. Guided by this mission, we empower seniors to remain safely independent at home for as long as possible – aging in place with dignity, purpose and choice.

Through our full spectrum of services listed below, we care for nearly 5,000 seniors throughout our region each year. We touch seniors and their families with highly personalized care that enables them to move seamlessly through our innovative services as their needs evolve.

While Abramson Senior Care remains committed to seniors who need long term care, we are focusing our growth on the expansion of home and community-based models. Our focus follows widespread trends toward care that enables seniors to age safely at home. In the near future, you will hear more about the expanded reach of our existing services, as well as innovative new services that will further improve the lives of seniors.

We are humbled and privileged that the community has entrusted us with caring for our seniors for over a century and a half. We have built our community’s trust in true partnership with you – our donor community – and are immensely grateful for your years of support.

But our work together is just beginning. Together, we can take our mission to new heights. Our seniors have never needed us more.

The ongoing challenges we faced caring for a Medicaid population where the costs always exceed Medicaid reimbursement was exacerbated this year by the financial impact of the pandemic.

Pegi’s mom, Margaret DeCenzi, recently recovered from COVID-19 at our Birnhak Transitional Care Center at Lankenau Medical Center. This beauti-ful facility provides care to patients after a hospital stay when they are not yet able to return home. It serves as an essential resource to our commu-nity, especially during these trying times, and was just included on the US News and World Report list of “Best short-term rehabilitation” facilities.

BIRNHAK TRANSITIONAL CARE at Lankenau Medical Center

The care for my 88 year-old mom was fantastic. She was recuperating from COVID and needed

skilled nursing. Mom was a nervous wreck about leaving Lankenau Medical Center. I think since TCC was right on the hospital campus, you could hear the relief in her voice. The nurses, aides, physical

therapists and Denise, the Abramson social worker, were all wonderful, Mom felt cared for, comfortable and respected.

The environment, in tandem with the great care, was so important in her recovery.

This has been a year like no other – for all of us, but especially for our frail seniors. The pandemic created a heightened meaning and an unprecedented urgency to our mission. As a result of the crisis, we were faced with staggering additional costs in order to secure sufficient PPE to protect seniors and our staff. Staff overtime and necessary modifications to our normal care delivery added to the financial burden.

Your response to our increased needs was overwhelming. The impact of your generosity helped to keep our seniors and staff safe, while allowing us to ease feelings of fear and isolation for seniors throughout our community.
