The California University of Science and Medicine (CUSM) is dedicated to advancing the art and science of medicine through medical education designed to inspire, motivate and empower students to become excellent and caring physicians, scientists, and leaders.

CUSM’s innovative, student-centered Doctor of Medicine curriculum is centered on training physicians in a participatory way that will prepare them to be innovative thinkers, collaborative clinicians and critical problem solvers. The curriculum was developed by MD and MD/PhD instructors and experienced medical educators who connect every lesson with its clinical application in a case-based, clinical presentation model. The university provides a strong medical education that exposes students to areas of focus for the medical profession as it evolves with advancements in technology, including biotechnology, biorobotics, immunotherapy and genomic medicine. The CUSM School of Medicine is a private, not-for-profit medical school located in Southern California.

Doctor of MedicineDegree: MD

CUSM seeks students who are motivated to participate in an active learning environment to earn a four-year Doctor of Medicine. The MD program offers a system-based curriculum where the basic science disciplines are taught in the context of clinical presentations. Students begin clinical reasoning during the first year, much sooner than in more traditional, less progressive MD programs. The curriculum ensures that physician leaders meet the challenges of the nation’s evolving healthcare system.

The Home of CUSM

The CUSM Campus

The California University of Science and Medicine is located next to the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, California with modern facilities that include a research lab, an anatomy lab, a clinical skills and simulation center, a digital library, two lecture halls, classrooms, a study lounge, and a student lounge break area.

Simulation Center

Students learn in a simulated environment where they develop patient care skills utilizing standardized patients, task trainers and high-fidelity mannequins.

Library

The library connects resources, services, technology, and information management expertise to enrich the teaching, learning, and research activities of the CUSM campus community. The digital library collection includes over 6,150 scientific journals, 4,360 eBooks, and thousands of media content files throughout 17 databases, with continual expansion planned. Library consortium agreements allow for sharing materials with other medical libraries and a 24/7 “Ask A Librarian” service is available for those late-night student inquiries.

Anatomy Lab

The approach to teaching and learning of anatomy, pathology, physiology, microbiology and immunology in the multidisciplinary anatomy lab at CUSM is unique. A hybrid arrangement allows students to learn hands-on and apply critical thinking skills to problem-solving in different disciplines within the same environment. With an emphasis on technology-facilitated teaching and learning, students will be trained in the laboratory to correlate anatomy in radiologic and ultrasonographic imaging, as well as with laparoscopic anatomy, and virtual microscopy. The laboratory also serves to facilitate surgical training.
