Our Lord Pastor’s Column Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
Transcript of Our Lord Pastor’s Column Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
Pastor’s Column Return to Red Tier – On the afternoon of Monday, November 16, Mayor London Breed announced that because of a new surge of Covid-19 cases, San Fran-cisco has gone from Yellow Tier back to the Red Tier restrictions on certain activities. And what that means for us is that our Offices will have to be closed and our staff will have to work remotely. However, please know that even as our offices will be closed, our staff contin-ue to be available to you. You can still reach us by phone or email. (Please see the bulletin flap for our individual phone numbers and email addresses.) And of course, in case of a pastoral emergency, you can reach the priest on duty at 415-866-6455. This Red Tier status still allows our Churches to remain open at 25% capacity or up to 100 people, whichever is less. I want to thank Mary Hyunh-De La O and the members of the Health Ministry Team, as well as our Sacristan, Matthew DeSilva for ensuring that we worship safely by keeping our space sanitized, and helping us with Contact Tracing. And to the parishion-ers who not only support us financially, but also assist us with sanitizing the church afterwards, a big thank you! I’d also like to thank Albert Wong & Eugene Libadia for helping to set up our current Audio/Visual system that has enabled us to livestream the mass via Facebook to you. And Ms. Rachel Leluc and Sr. Mary Francis who set up the computer daily for this livestream broadcast over the internet. Zosimo “Jun” Alvar, our Music Director, has been great preparing instrumental music for our daily & weekend liturgies as well as preparing the slides of the readings that are projected at the weekend masses. Although we’re not allowed to sing in church, Jun has lined up cantors to record their sing-ing so it can be played at our masses. This type of preparation is no easy task. He has to first play and record his music, then he sends it electronically to the cantor, who then plays the recorded music and sings, while recording it again. Then it’s all sent back elec-tronically to Jun, who plays it at mass. To Ken DelPonte and Tessie Velicaria, who manage the waivers and contact tracing information, and to our Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, and Members of the Liturgy Committee who assist us in planning our liturgies, thank you for your ministry that makes the Mass possible. Paraphras-ing Mrs. Hillary Clinton, who once reminded us that “It takes a village to raise a child,” I can af-firm that in our case It takes a community, like you, to make the Eucharist possible. Thank you everyone for your part in making the Eucharist possible and safe, and may God bless you all! Stay healthy and safe!!! -- Fr. Dan
Our Lord Jesus Christ,
King of the Universe
November 22, 2020
I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink. — Matthew 25:35
THE SHEPHERD KING The job of shepherd and the job of king couldn’t be more different from each other. Shepherds are on the lowest rung of society, kings are at the top. But God says, through the prophet Ezekiel, that the Messiah will lead in a way very different from earthly authorities who lord it over their people and cause harm with their poor leadership. Our King takes on the job himself. Christ, like a shepherd, will give rest, seek out the lost, bring back the strayed and scattered ones. He will heal the wounded and bind up the injured. He does not dele-gate, but will “shepherd them rightly.” We have a king who cares for us and who is not afraid to “judge be-tween one sheep and another” (Ezekiel 34:17). Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
FEAST OF FAITH — Procession
“Go forth, the Mass is ended.”
At the beginning of Mass, the ministers entered in solemn pro-cession, an emblem of the diverse community that comes together around the altar each week to celebrate the Eucharist. As Mass ends, another proces-sion forms, and the min-isters go forth from the church. This concluding pro-cession also acts as an emblem of the entire assembly, who, nourished by the Eucharist, will now go forth to our scattered homes and places of work to be a trans-forming leaven of the gospel in the world. At the begin-ning of Mass, the priest kissed the altar as a sign of greeting, a gesture of reverence for Christ. Now, the priest reverences the altar again, this time in a gesture of farewell. We gather our things and go forth as we entered—but not quite. Through our celebration of the Eucharist, we have renewed our commitment to service of Christ our King, and we go forth nourished, strengthened, renewed—changed.

Saint Anne Health Ministry Volunteers Needed As you know, we have opened up all Masses to be cel-ebrated indoors by as many as 100 people per Mass. However, due to County health regulations, we need to take people’s temperatures and have them sign in as they enter. To assist us with this, we need a minimum of three volunteers for each of the following Masses on the weekends: Sat. 5pm, and Sundays 8am and 10am. If you’d like to help out in any way, please contact Mary at [email protected] Many thanks!
Blood Drive at St Anne the Day after Thanksgiving-- Friday, Nov. 27th In Moriarty Hall from 10a –2:45p
We hope you can participate! During these challenging times, it is more important than ever to find things to be thankful for. Your generous blood donation can help make the difference in the lives of others, giving the gift of life to a patient in need. Right now there is an urgent need for O- blood, the
universal blood type that all patients can receive. There is also an increased demand for convalescent plasma. Donors whose blood tests positive for antibodies can help a COVID 19 patient with their plasma while their other blood components may help a trauma victim, can-cer patient, or someone with another serious medical condition. You may find out more as well as schedule an appointment through the link on our parish website under “News.” Schoolyard parking available.
May a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving
Be Yours!
