Sunday School Resumes
Where did our summer go We are sure all of our children are asking the
same question. Back to our routines—which
includes: Sunday School Classes resuming on
September 16th at 9:15 a.m.
First, we would like to thank Tim and Jan Dinterman for hosting our
annual Care-Giving and Prayer Shawl picnic on August 21st. We
had a wonderful time and delicious food.
Although the members of the Prayer Shawl Ministry have not met on
a regular basis, they have been busy making the lovely shawls and
blankets that have been presented to our loved ones this year. We
have almost depleted our inventory of yarn. If you would like to donate
yarn or money towards yarn to help us replenish our inventory of
blankets and shawls, please contact Connie Rough. Thanks

Care Givers
Glade Guild
The Guild needs your garden’s extra red,
green and yellow bell peppers to freeze for
the pepper slaw for our November 2nd &
3rd church dinners. We could also use pint
and quart size jars for the dinners.
September---Children and teens are heading back to school! Most of us
are beyond that age bracket. But, no matter what your age, you're never
too old to learn. And you're not required to get a new lunchbox or new
sneakers...you don't have to set your alarm clock so you won't miss the
big yellow school bus...you don't have to worry about grades on a report
card. In school or out, everyday you can practice your
A B Cs... Always Be Car ing!
Perhaps you'll consider things you can do to ADD beauty to the world,
beginning in our community, by simple acts of kindness. You could
SUBTRACT from some fr iend's busy schedule by prepar ing a meal
for the family. You could practice "the 3 Rs" by sending a note of
encouragement to someone to READ. . .by "_RITING" a thank you note
to let someone know you appreciate them... or by simple
"_RITHMETIC" with 1 smile + 1 kind word + 1 listening ear
equaling an A+ in caring!
Blessings!---Becky D.
The Glade Guild will meet on Sunday, September 30 following the
worship service. The agenda includes the Nov 2nd and 3rd Fall
Dinner and Bazaar, Christkindlmarket 2018, and the Thank Offering
Service. All are welcome!

Second Mile Giving For September
The Mental Health Association of Frederick County has served the
community as a private, non-profit organization since 1965. A leader
in creating services that respond to the changing mental health needs in
our community, the Mental Health Association of Frederick County is
a place where people can be heard and receive support. Their
programs aspire to promote positive mental health and offer not just
education, but the support and compassion needed to make real and
lasting changes in the lives of those they serve. Your support enables
them to provide suicide/crisis intervention, professional therapy
services on a sliding scale basis, trained advocates for children in the
foster care system, and child abuse prevention programs that
strengthen and empower Frederick’s children and families.

The Date
Sept. 16, 2018
Many thanks to our July Soup Kitchen crew. We were a small but
dedicated and efficient group. We had plenty of food for our guests
and all went smoothly. We are up again on Sunday, Sept. 16th at the
Frederick Community Action Agency in downtown Frederick. We
will need mac & cheese, cakes, salad, rolls and, of course, servers. It
is a privilege to serve and we are thanked profusely and sincerely for
our service. Come join us on Sept. 16th. We can give you a ride from
church at 4:15 p.m. or meet us at the Soup Kitchen at 4:45 p.m.
Look for the sign-up sheet at the back of the church.
Mission & Social Action Committee
The 2018 Altar Flower Sign up Sheet still has several Sunday’s
available for the remainder of the year. PLEASE consider signing up
to provide the flowers for a Sunday or two. You may place them in
honor or memory of someone who is special to you. Consider
selecting a Sunday that coincides with their birthday or another special
day. You may wish to give a donation to the altar flower fund instead.
Make the check out to “Glade UCC” and on the memo line, write
“Altar Flower Fund”.

Special Thanks
A big thank you to Bill Powell for arranging
all the wonderful special music during the
summer while our choirs were on their
summer break. We enjoyed the beautiful
music from the very talented musicians.
Dear Members and Friends of Glade,
Thank you for such a nice celebration of
my eight years as your pastor. The kind
words of remembrances, the delicious
meal and time of fellowship, and the
generous monetary gift that we received to add to our Ireland trip
fund is most appreciated. A special word of thanks to Connie
Rough, Frances Cecil, Becky Duncan and Chris Torbeck are in
order. The table decorations, flowers, cake, and delicious food
were wonderful!
With Gratitude and Love,
Phil
A special thanks to all who provided the Refreshments
for our fellowship time after the summer worship
services.
They were enjoyed by all!
