It’s that time of year again – Lent. Annually, many of us
make grand declarations of what we’re “giving up”:
soda, chocolate, fried foods, spending too much money.
Let me also declare that I am in that “many of us”
category.
However, this year I am picking something up –
movement. I have decided that exercise will be my
spiritual practice this Lenten season, along with
increased prayer (which I am going to need, because all
that exercise is going to wear me out!).
So join me in picking up a spiritual discipline. Make it something that you
know you need to work on. It might be a personality trait. It might be
something that you need to get mastery of. Whatever it is, take the next 46
days to work your spiritual well being. It will change your life.

Consistory Report
Minutes of Glade UCC Consistory Meeting
Tuesday, January 14 @ 7:00 PM
Consistory Activities— Danny Ogg chaired the meeting, and Pastor Guy
Johnson offered the devotion. The election of officers was held. Danny
Ogg was elected President, Ray Hummer was elected Vice President, and
Irene Weddle was elected Secretary. The New consistory members Carole
Kreimer & Lisa Frederick were welcomed. The approval of the
Consistory minutes from the December 10th consistory meeting & the
December 15th congregational meeting were reviewed and approved.
New Business—The consistory discussed the change in By-laws to
reduce the consistory members from nine members to seven members,
and to change our quorum requirements from 50% to 2/3’s of consistory
members that must be present to constitute a quorum for a meeting.
These changes will be brought to the congregations attention and voted on
at the annual congregational meeting on February 9, 2020.
Pastors Report—Pastor Guy offered his report. He told us about his
vacation, Jo Gilbert’s funeral service, the Christmas service and his
meeting with the Search Committee. He apologized for the hymn sing
mix up. He also let us know hew was happy to be here at Glade UCC.
Pastor Search Committee—Carole Kreimer reported that the Church
Profile was finished and that the committee is waiting to hear from Rev.
Audrey Price of the Central Atlantic Conference. There was a discussion
as to whether the new pastor would be full or part-time.
Property— When the weather warms up we will re-visit the parking lot
sealing & striping. Contractors don’t do this type of work in the cold
weather.
Mission & Social Action—The soup kitchen in January went well. A
new person is in charge and they were not aware that Glade UCC
volunteers the 3rd Sunday of the odd months. We are currently on the
schedule for the remainder of the year.

The Second Mile Recipient for March
Through our sharing, we get a taste of the generosity of God, who does
“immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.” When we look at
suffering in the world, we can become discouraged, unable to see past
the difficulty. But when we think of the wonders God works, our
imaginations go wild! Gifts to One Great Hour of Sharing help provide,
nourishment and income. Without the burdens of struggle, communities
have more time for creativity, learning, and possibilities for life in
greater fullness. God is at work doing so much more than we can
imagine! And when we contribute to One Great Hour of Sharing, we
are part of God’s work in the world.

Mission & Social
We are back at the Soup Kitchen in downtown Frederick on March 15th.
This will be 1 week after the church suppers, so we’ll see what we have

of all we need you to participate on the 15th and to serve – in all the ways
we understand this word as Christians. Please join us at 4:45 on March

Care Givers
I've heard it said that March straddles winter and spring--- the days
go from harsh to mild (and, if you're a basketball fan, the days of
'March Madness' can be wild! ---Go Terps! ) But I digress---
getting back on topic---
Winter is almost past . . . Spring is in the air! As I strolled through
our yard recently, I could see clear signs of spring popping up
through the cold ground . . . green blades of tulips, daffodils, and
hyacinths are already making their appearance. Spring's display of
the newness of nature has a way of lifting our spirits. I'm hoping
the following quotes will be your inspiration to lift the spirits of
others as you show them God's love through some small act of
caring and kindness.
“A kind word is like a spring day.” --- Russian proverb
“A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions,
and the roots spring up and make new trees. “
--- Amelia Earhart
“Kindness is the root of all good things.”
“Every small act of kindness and every thoughtful gesture is like a
tiny seed, and when you plant these seeds, wonderful things can
happen. Love takes root!”
Remember... “A smile and kind words are always in season."
Blessings! Becky D, - - - Care Givers Ministry

Inclement Weather Policy
Sunday School and morning services will be cancelled when
the snow emergency plan is in effect at 8:00 A.M. in
Frederick County.
In the event there is inclement weather, but a snow
emergency has not been declared for Frederick County, Glade
Church will hold Sunday School and morning church services.
Cancellation announcements will be issued on our Facebook
page, our website at www.gladechurch.org,, or on WAFY Key
103.1 FM. We will make every effort to get the announcement
out by 8:00 AM.
While we would love to see everyone in church on Sunday morn-
ing, we do not want anyone to hurt themselves trying to get to
church. If you have any doubts about the driving and walking
conditions, please make your personal safety your highest
priority.
The sign up sheet for providing altar flowers
for a Sunday in 2020 is up on the bulletin
board. Please consider signing up to provide
them for a Sunday or two in the new year.
You may place them in honor or memory of
someone who is special to you. Consider
selecting a Sunday that coincides with their
birthday or another special day. You may
wish to give a donation to the altar flower
fund instead. Make the check out to
“Glade UCC” and on the memo line,
write “Altar Flower Fund.”
