Our life Rocks!

Izzy IgneousHi I am Izzy Igneous and I live in the crust of the earth. To find my exact neighborhood it is in the surface in areas of current or past volcanism or in uplifted and eroded areas of past plutonic intrusions, deep underground nearly anywhere, or in areas of past or present glaciation, where my daughters Grace Granite and Olivia Obsidian rock have been living with me. I then mix with my sister, Sydney Sedimentary and we run into each other and then get on our ways.

Izzy->SydneyWeathering and Erosion has EVERYTHING to do with Sydney and I meeting up again. Through weathering and erosion of me. I am, exposed to weathering processes at the surface, breaks into smaller pieces. Erosional processes transport these pieces to a place of deposition where they build up, layer on layer. Eventually the compaction caused by the weight of the sediments above reduces the amount of space and water between particles. In this process of rock formation known as lithification, cementing minerals are formed out of the slowly disappearing fluids, which are saturated with mineral components. Once cemented together, it is now Sydney. Quinn Quartz sandstone is an example of the resultant as Sydney rock derived from the processes described above on meeting Sydney.

Sydney Sedimentary

Hi, I am Sydney Sedimentary. I am the sister of Izzy Igneous and Maddy Metamorphic, and am the Mother of Sandy Sandstone and Shelly Shale. I love to travel especially in Australia, that is where you will probably find me. My grandmother Suzy Sedimentary and my Mom Sadie Sedimentary helped build the Grand Canyon. Exploring is my passion if you go in my house you will find shells, bones, leaves, stems and other remains of living things.

Sydney->MaddySedimentary rock can be metamorphosed by: a) exposure to heat by close proximity to a heat source such as a plutonic intrusion; b) from deep burial pressures; c) from directed pressure and heat from mountain building processes; d) chemical changes from exposure to heated fluids, the fluids heated by a plutonic intrusion. Metamorphism of sedimentary rocks can result in a realignment of mineral constituents, recrystallization, or new chemical compositions.

Maddy Metamorphic

Maddy Metamorphic here, I love to change which represents my name. I love old mountains which is where I live and where I raised my wonderful rocks (daughters) Gabby Gneiss, Sammy Slate and Quinn Quartzite. I also love to go to beaches, which is were I meet up with Izzy Igneous, but I will meat up with Sydney in about a million years.
