April was a busy month - the Chihuly tour on April
8th and the final speaker for this Guild year on April 15th! Sixteen ladies toured the Chihuly exhibit at the Desert Botanical Gardens on a hot afternoon! Our guide was great and stretched our hour tour to an hour and a half while she told us about the many wonders on the Sonoran desert landscape. Thank you to everyone who joined in on this interesting tour.
At our General Meeting, Evelyn Robles gave us lots of tips on how to avoid identity theft. Some tips we all know, some were new to me...don't put your outgoing mail in your private mailbox, don't use easily discovered passwords, don't keep your Medicare card in your wallet. For those who weren't at the meeting, Ms. Robles left copies of a very helpful pamphlet about identity theft which I'll bring to the May Luncheon. And we raised a quick $16 from the sale of the unwanted treasures from the Guild cabinets.

Our Guild year is almost over with the last meeting being the Appreciation Brunch on May 20. We had the pleasure of one of our Angel members, Alcida DeClaire, at our April general meeting. I know that many Angel members no longer wish to participate in many of our activities but I hope they know that we are delighted to see them at any of our get-togethers. Congratulations to the new Board. Thank you to our members who have served previously and have agreed to return. I know many Guild members are involved in other ministries so volunteer time is stretched to the limit. If you have never served on the Board or chaired one our activities, please get involved. If everyone shares some of the responsibility, the Guild's programs will be successful and it will turn out to be an enjoyable experience. It is the best way to get to know our members! I speak from experience having served on the Board in several positions. Pauline McNaney was new to the Guild and on the Board this year and Joan Marso and Becky Crain, relatively new members, will be on the Board this coming year.
Thank you to all the ladies on the Boards these past two years. You have been a joy to work with. You should be proud of all you accomplished. Thank you to all the Guild members for your support. I hope you realize that our two fundraisers have allowed the Guild to donate more than $16,000 this year to our Outreach recipients. That's amazing!
And thank you for letting me spin some of the Irish in me. These things, I warmly wish for you-Someone to love, some work to do, A bit o' sun, a bit o' cheer. And a guardian angel always near.
God Bless, Lucille
A FINAL MESSAGE FROM LUCILLE VAN VALKENBURG,
PRESIDENT OF OUR LADY’S GUILD MAY 2014
8th Annual Holiday Bazaar November 7 & 8, 9am-4pm It’s hard to imagine that plans are already in development. Believe it or not, this successful event is in it’s 8th year. It’s become a major fundraiser for our organ-ization. That’s why we need your support. portunity for more Outreach projects. We gave over $8,000 from last year’s event. Booths are available for vendors and/or crafters. If you, or someone you know, are interested in “setting up shop” at this year’s Bazaar, don’t wait another minute!! Contact Laurie Rivera, Vendor Chair at 202-316-8488 or [email protected]

A NOTE FROM THE 2nd VICE PRESIDENT
I would like to say; thank you to everyone for your support and comments during my time as
2nd VP. Some programs were great, some not so much (...I'm still not sure about our Yoga stress lady....I'm doing the clam shell right now and saying hi to you all....) but it was lots of fun for me. Special thanks to Cindy Czarnik for her spectacular travel talks. Our tours to the State Capi-tol, the Japanese Friendship Garden, Los Cedros, as well as the DBG, were great times to learn a little (ok, maybe a little too much about horse insemination...) and enjoy each others company. We all look forward to the programs and tours Lyn and Becky have in store for us all to enjoy!!
