PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another
in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and
spiritual songs to God.“ (Colossians 3:16)
Hello parents and guardians, I hope all is well. September has absolutely
flown by, despite the sunshine, it is apparent that the season is changing. It
continues to be busy at Our Lady of Victory with lots of learning, fun times
and social challenges, but we shall surely get there, one small step at a
time. Marian Wright once said, “We must not, in trying to think about how
we can make a difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make,
which, over time, add up to big differences we cannot foresee.” So, as we
enter the month of October of which the virtue is ‘Gratitude’’, we hope to
be able to show our gratitude for what God has done for us by sharing with
those who have less than us. Enjoy the Fall season and may the blessings of
the almighty God be with you and all your loved ones.
Sincerely,
G. Danfulani
Virtue: Gratitude “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. “ (Colossians 3:16)

Virtue of the month is
Gratitude
Gratitude Affirmations:
The virtue of gratitude shapes our entire outlook on life. It is the channel through which we become aware of the sacred, and the many blessings of our lives. To learn the grammar of gratitude, practice saying "thank you" for happy and challenging experiences, for people, animals, things, art, memories, dreams. Gratitude allows us to appreciate and accept our lives. Gratitude allows us to accept our life as a gift.
.
Reflection on Gratitude
Now, wherever we are, and in every place, and at every hour, throughout each time of each
day, may all of us honestly and humbly believe, holding in our hearts to love, honor, adore,
serve, praise, bless, glorify, exalt, magnify, and give thanks to the Most High and Eternal God,
Trinity and Unity.
Amen." -Jon Sweeney

News around and about Our Lady of Victory
Me to We
Me to We has started this year with an amazing event. Our students attended the Me to We concert where they
were left with strong messages of empowerment for our youth. This year, Me to We will continue to host
monthly events to raise money for charities that focus on helping those in need around the world. Me to We
represents our youth as change makers for our world. A world that needs everyone’s help to flourish.
Isaiah 58:10 Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the
darkness around you will be as bright as noon.
“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” – Mother Teresa
Foot Patrollers
On September 17th, 2019 Our Lady of Victory students were trained for the Foot Patroller program. This
program is funded by CAA and training is provided by an officer. Officer De Quintal worked with our
volunteer students in order to prepare them for the necessary safety protocol that needs to be followed.
The students were eager and excited to get through the training and begin working. Everyday these
students are prompt and ready to start their day ensuring the students cross the road safely. Thank you Mr.
Da Silva for your guidance and support to our students.
Update on Negotiations with CUPE The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) is involved in province-wide, central collective bargaining with the Council
of Trustee Associations and the provincial government.
At the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB), CUPE represents caretaking, maintenance and warehouse staff, office
clerical and technical staff, school based support staff including
Child and Youth Workers and Education Assistants, and secondary school supervisors as well as International Language
Instructors.
The TCDSB has been advised that the members of the CUPE may begin job action as early as Monday, September 30, beginning
with work-to-rule sanctions.
The health and safety of students and staff is deeply important to us.
If there is any impact to regular school operations, parents will receive communications through the following methods:
• School Messenger (please ensure that your school has current and up to date telephone numbers and email addresses on file for your family)
• Twitter (follow @TCDSB)
• TCDSB website www.tcdsb.org

schools, day care centres, before- and after-school programs and nutrition programs will continue to remain open as long as it
is safe to do so.

How can I support my child’s learning?
You are an important partner in your child’s mathematics education. When you find ways to
engage your child in thinking and talking about mathematics, you are providing an important
key for unlocking his or her future success. Today, critical thinking, problem solving, reasoning
ability and the ability to communicate mathematically are essential skills. These processes are
the foundation of mathematics instruction in Ontario schools. They are brought into play as you
engage your child in the activities suggested in this guide. Enjoy learning together! Ensuring
students have a strong understanding of math fundamentals is part of the government’s vision
Education That Works for You.
Learn more at www.ontario.ca/ page/education-works
Please note: In this guide, the word parent refers to parents, guardians, caregivers and other
family members who help children learn mathematics.
• Build strong, positive attitudes about math. When children feel positively engaged and
successful, they are more likely to stick with an activity or a problem to find a solution.
• Begin with activities that meet your child’s level of mathematical understanding. Early
success in solving problems will build your child’s confidence. Gradually move to activities that
provide more challenge for your child.
• If you and your child are more comfortable in a language other than English, use it. Your child
will understand concepts better in the language that he or she knows best.

Halloween Safety Tips
For Parents:
• Make your child eat dinner before setting out.
• Children should carry quarters so they can call home or provide a cell phone.
• Young children of any age should be accompanied by an adult.
• If your children go on their own, be sure they wear a watch, that can be read in the dark.
• If you buy a costume, look for one made of flame-retardant material.
• Older children should know where to reach you and the time to return home.
• You should know where they're going.
• Look at the wrapping carefully and toss out anything that looks suspect.
• Review the above "Trick-or-Treater" safety rules with your children.
Drop-off/Kiss & Ride
Please remember that safety trumps convenience when dropping off our students at school.
• Drop-off and 10-minute parking limit is available on Guestville Ave. on the east side of the school. There is also available parking on
Denis Ave.

Our Lady of Victory’s parent council meets every 3rd Wednesday of the month
except when there is a scheduling conflict with mandatory school board events or any other
extenuating circumstance. Please join us in the school’s Atrium for our next meeting on Oct.
16th, 2019 at 6:30 PM if you can, your voice and ideas, plus time really matters.
Home/School Connection
Questions to ask your child when supporting them with
homework:
• What are you working on?
• What are you learning?
• Is it challenging or not? Why?
• What do you do when you are stuck on a task?
• How do you know you are on the right track?
• What resources do you use at school to complete this
kind of work?
• What resources do you need at home to complete this
kind of work?
Reflections for a parent
• Does my child have a quiet space to complete her/his
homework?
• Have I set the framework for homework routines?
• Do I monitor my child’s homework for completion?
• Can I give my child feedback based on the learning
goal and success criteria provided?
