Please join us in prayer for :

Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church August 25, 2019

From the Pastor:

Father Walter J. Ciszek, S.J. wrote in his powerful book, He

Leadeth Me:

Every moment of our life has a purpose, every action of ours, no matter how dull or routine or trivial it may seem in itself, has a dignity and a worth beyond human understanding. No man’s life is insignificant in God’s sight, nor are his works insig-nificant—no matter what the world or his neighbors or family may think of them. Yet what a terrible responsibility is here. For it means that no moment can be wasted, no opportunity missed, since each has a purpose in man’s life, each has a pur-pose in God’s plan…. No one can know greater peace, no one can be more committed, no one can achieve a greater sense of fulfillment in his life than the man who believes in this truth of the faith and strives daily to put it into practice. If it all seems too simple, you have only to try it to find how difficult it is. But you have only to try it to find out as well the joy and the peace and the happiness it can bring. For what can ultimately trouble the soul that accepts every moment of every day as a gift from the hands of God and strives always to do his will?

God bless you and your offering of this week back to God in

love.

With love and prayers, Fr. Francis

Guidelines for Reserving Masses

We are happy to share that the guidelines for reserving Masses, now in place, have made it possible for many more members of our parish family to remember their loved ones on days and dates that are meaningful for them. Your understanding and support is sincerely appreciated. In the Christian spirit of loving and helping each other, please note the following: 1. With the agreement of both persons who are requesting a Mass, the Mass can be offered for TWO intentions. When you request a Mass you will be asked if you would agree to sharing that Mass with someone else for whom that day is significant. If you do, a note will be made in the Mass book. The Mass is a most powerful prayer and God will bless your kindness, understanding and generosity of spirit. 2. To make it possible for as many members of our parish family as possible to remember their loved ones on days and dates that are meaningful for them, during the first week the Mass book is open: a) An individual or household may reserve up to three weekend Masses.

b) For weekday Masses, including Saturday at 9 AM, an individual or household may reserve up to four Masses for the same individual on the same day of the week at the same time. ( Ex. Up to 4 Masses on Thursdays at 8 am for Joe Smith) 3. You may call the rectory (359-1230) during business hours to re-serve a Mass and then follow up with your donation. Please remem-ber, however, that when the Mass book first opens there may be significant wait time as the secretary attends to those in the office. Thank you for your understanding!

AUGUST 2

The Children’s Corner

Feast of St. Augustine (Aug. 28) and St. Monica (Aug. 27)

This week we celebrate two saints, a mother and son: St. Monica and St. Augus-

tine. As a young Christian woman, St. Monica was married to a pagan. Early in their

marriage, he was bitter and critical. After nearly 20 years, Monica's holy example led

to his conversion to Christianity. In the meantime, Augustine was a teenager begin-

ning to live a wild life of self-indulgent excess. This lifestyle would continue into his

adulthood. Like with her husband, Monica prayed and fasted for the conversion of

her son. Augustine met another future saint, the bishop Ambrose of Milan, who

greatly influenced his perspective on life. Augustine was baptized a Christian! Augus-

tine later became a bishop and one of the most influential thinkers in Christian histo-

ry. How's that for the power of patience and intercessory prayer? ©LPi
