Please join us in prayer for :

2nd Sunday of Advent Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church December 8, 2019

From the Pastor:

The late Cardinal Jean Daniélou, was a French Jesuit, whose Advent reflection may help us with our preparation to receive Jesus with more love this Christmas :

John was sent to them to destroy their indifference and delu-sions, and to make them receptive to God’s plans…. Even though he himself was not a missionary to the nations of the world, he had a mission to prepare those who would be sent out as missionaries, once the hour of God had come….

John’s vocation is an example for us. It gives him a place in the community so that he can fulfill his unique role there. Now this is precisely the essence of a vocation: it makes a person realize the necessity of his existence, that is, discover that he is necessary to others, and answers a vital need. A truly miserable life is one which serves no purpose, which feels itself cut off, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind, as Saint Paul said. It is superficial with the horrible superficiality of one who is not carried along to his proper place (the place where God wants him) by the force of love. True happiness of life, on the other hand, consists in having found one’s rightful place, the place that God wants, no matter what that place might be.

Let us trust in God and His plans for us. Let’s love where He has us! God bless you!

With love and prayers, Fr. Francis

2nd Sunday of Advent Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church December 8, 2019

This year the celebration of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception is moved to Monday, December 9 be-cause it falls on a Sunday and the Ad-vent Liturgy takes precedence. It is

also not a Holy Day of Obligation this year. We will have three Masses on Monday, December 9 and Expo-sition of the Blessed Sacrament will continue as usual on Monday, 8:30 AM—Noon. However, there is NO VIGIL Mass on Sunday evening. This is one of the most beautiful feasts honoring the Blessed Mother. Find some time to spend with Mary and her Son.

Adopt-a-Family Many children and their families in Rockland are unable to joyfully celebrate the holidays without the support of generous neighbors.

Catholic Charities Community Services invites you to adopt a family of one, two or more and will provide a list of simple needs and wishes including sizes and ages.

Last year this program was able to put a smile on the faces of 165 adults and 255 children. Can you help care for even more this year?

This is a wonderful project for a family to do together!

Interested? Call 845-942-5791 ext. 17 or email: [email protected] (put Adopt-a family) in the subject line)

Catholic Charities Community Services of Rockland will be operating “The Inn” Rockland County Warming Center. The Warming Center is a safe haven for the homeless during the winter months, from November 1, 2019 through April 30, 2020.

We are in need of volunteers to assist in serving meals to the guests and cleaning up afterwards. The hours would be 6:00 – 9:00 pm. If you are able to assist, please contact us at 845-942-5791 ext. 10 - Monday-Friday 9:00-5:00. Please ask for Luz. Or you can email [email protected]. If you be-long to a group, they will also be welcomed.

As the holiday season approaches

Remembering those we love….

During this coming holiday season, consider a Memorial Donation of Altar Bread and Wine, or a Memorial Dona-tion for Altar Flowers for a week. Flowers will be placed on the altar in the main Church for the weekend and then moved to the Chapel for weekday Masses. The name of your loved one along with the name of the person making the request will be printed in the Bulletin and they will be remembered in a special way by the Priests as they cele-brate Mass. We will also continue to take requests for the Tabernacle Candle Memorials. Please call the Parish Office (359-1230) for more information
