Dear OLSH Family:

Isn’t so much of what our Christian lives are about in to-day’s Gospel.

Love the Lord your God “with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” And: “You shall love your neighbor as your-self.”

Every morning of every day – every after-noon and evening, too – we should be thinking of this, we should be motivated by this. This is who we are and are called to be. Be all in, in the Christian life!!! Let’s help one another with this love. Especially as people are on edge with the election and the pandemic and everything else. God help us!

With love and prayers, Fr. Francis

Parish/Oratory: (NEW ITEMS IN BLUE)

Weekly Donations: During this pandemic our weekly parish expenses continue even though our daily lives look very different. In recent weeks the collection has decreased as compared to last year (see pg. 5) . Your on-going generous support is critical for the financial health of our parish. Thank you for caring for

your spiritual home.

All-Souls Day envelopes are available in the church and Chapel. Please take this opportunity to remember your loved ones for the entire month of November. You can also call the parish office to make a donation via credit card and they will fill out the envelope for you so that it will be on the altar all month as well.

The Challenges of Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship: An excellent article published by the US Council of Catholic Bishops can be found at: https://www.usccb.org/issues-and-action/faithful-citizenship/upload/Forming-Consciences-Faithful-Citizenship-bulletin-insert.pdf

Live-stream Video Volunteers Needed: Our live-streamed Masses have been such a gift to our parish during these difficult days bringing the heart of the parish into the homes of those who cannot as yet return to Mass in person. We are in need of volunteers to assist with the video presentation as the Mass is taking place. It is a very SIMPLE task and training will be provided. If you regularly attend the 8 AM daily Mass, 9 AM or 5 PM on Saturday, or 10:30 AM on Sunday, please consider being part of this much needed support group which touches so many in our Parish family. Please call the Parish Office (359-1230) if you are interested or have any questions. Thanks!

Prayer for Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in

the Most Holy Sacrament. I love you above

all things and I desire to receive you in my

soul. Since I cannot at this moment re-

ceive you sacramentally, Come at least

spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as

if you were already there

And unite myself wholly to you.

Never permit me to be separated from you.

Amen.

Election 2020: Early voting in NY began on Oct. 24 and continues until Nov. 1. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.Voting is both a privilege and a responsibility. Let us pray together for the Lord’s blessings on our coun-try at this difficult time and for guidance from the Holy Spirit for all who seek to form their conscience to vote.

A Prayer for the Election James Martin, S.J. Loving God, I ask you to guide me during this important election season:

Help me to understand the Gospels, in which Jesus Christ reveals his path of love, mercy and compassion, especially toward those who are poor, sick or struggling in any way.

Instruct me on what the church teaches on the important issues of our day: abortion, racism, migration, war and peace, health care, the death penalty, economic justice, care for the environment and on all those ques-

tions that I must ponder with your help. Enable me to form my conscience so that I may vote wisely.

Loving God, I ask you to help me to live peacefully with others:

Allow me to be open to the opinions of others with whom I disagree. Fill me with a spirit of charity toward those who may oppose me.

Give me patience in times of struggle.

Loving God, I ask you to help me stand with those who are marginalized or persecuted: Increase my courage so that I can stand up in times of danger.

Create in me a new heart that I might be brave in times of turmoil. Make me someone who is ready to care for, advocate for and suffer with those on the margins.

Loving God, I ask you to aid our civic leaders: Grant them good health and a spirit of wisdom.

Open to them paths of reconciliation. Teach them your ways of love, mercy and compassion.

Loving God, I ask you to bless our nation:

Crown it with your compassion. Support it with your care.

And nurture it with your love. Amen.

Prayers to the Virgin Mary

for Protection

O Mary, you shine continuously on our jour-ney as a sign of salvation and hope. We entrust

ourselves to you, Health of the Sick.

At the foot of the Cross you participated in Jesus’ pain, with steadfast faith.

You, Our Lady of New York, know what we need.

We are certain that you will provide, so that, as you did at Cana of Galilee, joy and feasting might return after this moment of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to the Father’s will and to do what Jesus tells us: He who took our sufferings upon Himself, and bore our sorrows to bring us, through the Cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen.

We seek refuge under your protection, O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our pleas – we who are put to the test – and deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin Amen.

For the Children

Sharing the Gospel:

When you have a choice to make, think about what God wants. Make sure your choices are good and that they help other people. When

you follow God's example, you will be ready to love other people. With God's help you can be

gentle, forgiving and kind.

Prayer: God, help me to love you and other people more and more every day.

Something to Draw: Draw a picture of your-self praying to God for someone who hurt

your feelings.

Mission for the Week: As a family, help an elderly person in your neighborhood. Help them clean up their home or their yard.
