THE CHURCHOn 31 December 1959 St Josemaríacelebrated the first Mass in Our Lady ofPeace. Since Opus Dei was established as

a personal prelature it hasbecome the prelatic church. StJosemaría’s devotion to OurLady is the reason for the namegiven to the church and for thepainting which presides over it.The Blessed Sacrament chapeland the confessionals are to befound in the crypt of the

professional and social duties, StJosemaría moved to Rome in 1946 led byhis great love for the Church and theuniversal nature of Opus Dei. From theEternal City he spread – across the fivecontinents – the message of the call of allChristian faithful to holiness. He died inRome on 26 June 1975. He wascanonised by Pope St John Paul II on 6October 2002.

The body of St Josemaría rests under thealtar of the Church of Our Lady of Peace.Millions of people all over the world turnto him to beseech God our Lord for all

kinds of favours. And there aremany who come to the prelaticchurch to keep praying forintentions or to give thanks for thefavours received through hisintercession.

St Josemaría was chosen by the Lord toproclaim the universal call to holinessand to indicate that everyday life, itscustomar y activities, are a pathtowards holiness.

It could be said that he was the saintof the ordinar y. He was reallyconvinced that, for whoever lives withan outlook of faith, everything offers anopportunity for a meeting with God,ever ything becomes a stimulus forprayer.

Pope St John Paul II

God loves all men, and he wants all tolove him – everyone, whatever theirsocial position, their work. Ordinary lifeis something of great value. All the waysof the earth can be opportunities to meetChrist, who calls us to identify ourselveswith him and carry out his divinemission – right where he finds us.

St Josemaría Escrivá

AN INTERCESOR BEFORE GODSt Josemaría Escrivá was bornin Barbastro (Spain) in 1902

and was ordained tothe priesthood in1925. On 2October 1928, bydivine inspiration,he founded OpusDei. This has openedup a new way ofsanctity in the midst ofthe world, through

ordinary life andthrough the ful-filment of family,

church. With untiring zeal St Josemaríapreached on the need to frequent thesacraments of Reconciliation and theEucharist, gifts of God to men, hischildren, and a source of peace andeverlasting joy.

Bl Álvaro del Portillo (1914-1994),bishop and the first successor of StJosemaría at the head of Opus Dei, isburied in the crypt. He was beatified inMadrid on 27 September 2014.

Holy Mary is the Queen of peace, andthus the Church invokes her. So whenyour soul or your family are troubled,or things go wrong at work, in society orbetween nations, cry out to her withoutceasing. Call to her by this title: “Reginapacis, ora pro nobis. Queen of peace, pray for us.” Have you at least tried itwhen you have lost your calm?...

You will be surprised at its immediateeffect.
