OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL PARISH SEEKONK, MASS.

Your donations are more important than ever.

Please visit our website, www.olmcseekonk.org,

and select “Online Giving.”

Parish office hoursAdjusted office hours are Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Two of the main staff will check voice messages and emails on these days. Most work can be accomplished over the phone. If you need to drop off anything or to pick up needed paperwork, this will be placed in the drop box we installed outside the parish office, or mailed to you.

Bulletin access Sign up to receive the bulletin by email at parishesonline.com. Read the bulletin online on Our Lady of Mount Carmel’s website, www.olmcseekonk.org. Email notices to [email protected].

Sign up for Flocknote for parish messagesTo sign up for Flocknote, a new method of parish communica-tion, text OLMCSeekonk to 84576. You can choose whether to receive text or email notifications. Please consider signing up and giving it a try, especially at this time, when the pandemic makes communication difficult.

Try our new online giving systemOur new online donation and payment system works directly through our eCatholic website and provides a safe, simple, and convenient way for parishioners to tithe or contribute gifts for a specific need. This helps eliminate the need to locate check-books, remember weekly envelopes, or mail in funds. Espe-cially during this difficult time when we are not in church weekly, parishioners can give directly on the parish website or set up a recurring account to give automatically. As you know, everything we do as a parish, from the upkeep of the church and Parish Center to the ministries we offer, comes from the generosity of parishioners. So, thank you! To use the system, visit www.olmcseekonk.org and select “Online Giving.”

Information for those who donate by checkThank you so much to all of you who have been supporting the parish with your donations throughout this very difficult time. We have had some inquiries regarding checks which were dropped off and not deposited as quickly as assumed. As has been the past practice, the weekly budgets are counted on a weekly basis, but the monthly collections such as Assess-ment, Building Fund, St. Vincent DePaul, and any Diocesan second collections are counted once per month. Therefore, you will notice that checks used for these specific collections will not be deposited as promptly as those given to the weekly collection. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we thank you for your continued support and patience during these unprecedented times. Stay safe, stay healthy and God bless you and your families.

If you can help financially but do not wish to give online, you may drop your donation in the black mailbox outside the parish office, or mail it to: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, 984 Taunton Ave., PO Box 519, Seekonk, MA 02771. Every lit-tle bit helps, so thank you.

THE ASCENSION OF THE LORDPastor’s PagePublic Masses Beginning Again: It is such wonderful news to hear that we can offer Masses publicly once again beginning this Saturday, May 30, with the 4:30 p.m. Vigil Mass for Pentecost. The bulletin had to be submitted by Wednesday, May 20, so all the details had not been worked out at that time. Please check the parish website and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Facebook site for updates regarding place, sched-ule, and how the Mass will be expe-rienced in this unique time we are in (what to expect and what one must do if one is coming for Mass). The Sunday schedule during this time will most likely be changed because we have to factor in time for people to come and go to Mass, longer communions because of the six-foot spacing required as people come forward to receive Our Lord, etc. (and other government regulations such as: one cannot gather with others before or after Mass). Also, we will be working on the schedule for first communions, as well as the Masses for those adults who are planning on coming into the Church and receive the sacraments (which they would have done originally at the Easter Vigil prior to the pandemic happening).

Because the pandemic still continues, and knowing there are many who are el-derly, frail, or have compromised health issues, the bishop is still granting the dispensation for attending Sunday Mass. So those who are disposed to a greater chance of catching the virus, you are encouraged to stay at home and contin-ue to join us via livestream.

Ordination to the Priesthood for Dea-con Steve Booth: The bishop plans to still ordain Deacon Steve Booth a priest on Saturday, June 13. It will be at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral and it is open to the public. But, because of the government regulations due to the pandemic, if you want to go please contact the parish office so we can make sure there will be space for you. Unfortunately, because of the requirements of spacing in a closed

area, we will not be arranging a bus to the cathedral so people should drive on their own.

T.n.T. (Tea and Theology): While we continue through the pandemic, I am trying another daily experience to help people to grow in understanding and living the spiritual and moral life. Mon-days through Saturdays at 10 a.m. I am holding brief 15-minute livestream ses-sions on the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Facebook site. My hope is that each day I will touch on different as-pects of faith that can help you grow in your understanding and living the faith, as well as answer questions people may have. You can post your questions in the “Comment” section of the Facebook video. I will try my best to answer in the midst of the livestream but sometimes it might have to carry over to the follow-ing day. If you watch the video later in the day, you can still post questions and I will do my best to try to answer them the following session. Come join us on T.n.T … it’s dynamite!

Catholic Charities Appeal: Because of the pandemic, the Catholic Charities Appeal has been delayed and will start next week. You will be receiving a mail-ing from the diocese about the appeal. The Appeal helps many throughout the diocese so please consider giving to help the thousands they give assistance to (and especially considering how many in the months ahead will need extra help as they look for jobs and other means of assistance). The new schedule for the Appeal will be June 1 – July 31.

The Wild Goose: This Wednesday and next Sunday we will finish our viewing and discussions on the Wild Goose video series. Even if you have not been joining the discussion groups or have not watched the videos, please consider watching them this week and I think you will find it to be a wonderful way to prepare for Pentecost. The videos can be found at olmcseekonk.formed.org

Father Kevin Cook(you must register for a free account). To watch the trailer for the series, go to: http://watch.formed.org/videos/the-wild-goose-trailer.

Livestreaming: Even with public Masses beginning next weekend, we will continue to livestream the Masses since many will still be unable to return to Mass. Those who are trying to figure out how to watch, you can join the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Seekonk Facebook site and watch the livestream. If you do not want to sign up for Face-book, I believe you can also go to our parish website (olmcseekonk.org) and in the upper right corner click on the “F” for Facebook and it will connect you to the Facebook site. It will ask you to login, but simply scroll down the page and click on “Not Now” and you can still watch the livestream.

Supporting the Parish Financially: During these difficult times many are out of work and having to trust some-how God will provide for them. Let us keep them in our prayers. The parish is also affected, which is why I ask that those who have the financial means to do so, please consider helping the parish the best you can (others who cannot, please by praying for the parish during this pandemic). You can give in several ways: online giving (go to our parish website to learn how), drop your donation in the black mailbox outside the office, or mail your donation to the parish. Every little bit helps. As this pandemic continues, there may be some decisions about where adjustments or cuts will need to be made so I ask for your prayers that I will carry those deci-sions out wisely and do what is best for the parish at this time. — Fr. Kevin

Society of St. Vincent de Paul

For he rescues the poor when they cry out, The oppressed who have no one to help. Psalm 72:12

In this Sunday’s Gospel Jesus tells his disciples that he will be with them until the end of age. As we live through this pandemic, let us remember that he is always with us, and let us always put our trust in him. We may not be able to enjoy Mass in our church buildings, but the church is well alive as Jesus remains in our hearts. Remember also, that Jesus remains visible in the chapel waiting for us to visit with him.

Do you know someone who needs help? Please call the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul at 401-603-8888 so that, together, we can help the suffering and the poor.

There are no meetings scheduled but the Society is always ac-tive and can be reached at the above telephone number.

Building a Culture of Vocations in MayEvery month we pray for different vocations to support those who are responding to the Lord’s call. In the month of May let us pray for Bishop daCunha (as he strives to shepherd us through this pandemic), Deacon Tom McMahon (at Our Lady, Queen of Martyrs in Seekonk) and Deacon Steve Booth (as he prepares for ordination), and our parishioners Tom and Lisa Gulino for the gift of the bond of marriage.

New Confession schedule beginsRegularly scheduled Confessions are now available and will be held in the “coronavirus” confessional at the entrance of the office (under the outdoor overhang). The new hours for confessions are: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 4:30-6 p.m. and Saturday from 3:15-4:15 p.m. If these hours do not work for you then please contact Father Kevin, 508-336-9022, to schedule a particular time for confession.

If you’re in need, please reach out Are you in need with help with food, clothing, shelter, or other needs? Throughout the year there are many needs that spring up, but especially in this difficult time there may be many of you who are struggling to make ends meet. Please do not hes-itate to contact our parish St. Vincent DePaul Society to see what type of assistance they can provide. Explain your current financial need and they will see what they can do to help you, whether it is with that direct need, or possibly by providing aid with some other need in daily life that frees you to address the need you are currently facing.

If you are sick and in the hospital If you are facing grave illness or going in for surgery at which they will be giving you anesthesia, please let Fr. Kevin know so he can come give you Confession, the Anointing of the Sick, and Communion (but only for a person who is dying, called Viaticum). Please know if you are admitted to the hospital for grave health, you should let them know that you are Catholic and would like the Anointing of the Sick or Confession (and please let your family know, if for some reason you are admit-ted to the hospital and unable to communicate, so your family can convey your wishes to the hospital). Currently at Rhode Island Hospital there is a priest chaplain, but some hospitals such as Sturdy do not have priest chaplains anymore, so ask them to contact Fr. Kevin, since you are a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

Outdoor Stations of the Cross Come pray at our outdoor Stations of the Cross in the main parking lot. These are just temporary Stations of the Cross that you can drive up to during this time of the pandemic. Simply pull into the entrance and turn left into the largest lot and the first station is immediately on the left. You drive around the lot clockwise and it concludes at the end of that first section. You can walk around to pray them (as long as there are not many others around) but it is being set up so one can drive up to each station and view it from the driver’s side of the car.
