Whole Community Faith Sharing Gospel — Matthew 25:31-46

Reflection: For this year's feast of Christ the King, we read of Jesus as King and Judge. He judges on the basis of care for the needy. Both the faithful and unfaithful ask the same questions of Him and re-ceive the same answer. We are fortunate in that Je-sus has revealed to us how we are to behave to-ward the least among us. Remember, nations as well as individuals will be judged by this simple rule. Question: If I were judged today by God, what would be my greatest regret? What is one thing I could do to change that? Faith Response: I will reflect on this demanding Gospel passage by seeing Jesus in those in need. I will follow that by engaging in works of mercy.

Living Stewardship Now

A Prayer to Christ the King from the Liturgy:

Almighty and merciful God, you break the power of evil

and make all things new in your Son Jesus Christ, the King of the universe.

May all in heaven and earth acclaim your glory

and never cease to praise you. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ,

your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

U if!Hjwjoh!Usff!

As you entered the Church today, you may have noticed the beautiful Christmas trees adorned with ornaments decorated by our children, parents, grandparents and pa-rishioners. Each ornament has a tag of an economically poor child in SB or Carpinte-ria. The tags have a set of directions, the child’s name, age & desired gifts they need & requested. If you wish, you can take these ornaments home, buy up to two gifts for that child, wrap it and please bring them to the Rectory by SUNDAY, DECEMBER 3RD. Our Elves need time to assemble the gifts together for deliv-ery. It is very important to attach the tag to the wrapped gifts so we will know to whom the gift belongs. On the tag, please circle which gift/s you’ve purchased. The orna-ments with a ribbon are families. If you have any questions, please contact Sr. Kath-leen Patrice at 969-4868. Thank you again to Anthony’s Christmas Trees & Wreaths for the donation of the Christmas trees.

Safeguard Our Children Did You Know?

Neglect Is a Common Form of Abuse

Neglect is the most common form of child abuse. It is the failure to meet a child’s basic needs, includ-ing housing, food, clothing, education, safety and access to health care. Neglect is most often charac-terized by acts of omission that aren’t easy to see. The signs of neglect are wide and varied, and may include: failure to develop and grow appropriately, or malnourishment, among infants; wearing inade-quate clothing for the weather; and children who seem to be wholly responsible for the welfare of their siblings. If you know that any type of abuse is occurring, or if a child discloses to you, it is impor-tant to communicate these concerns to the appro-priate authorities. Call your local law enforcement or child protective services department to report suspected abuse of any kind. For a copy of the VIRTUS® article “The Oft-Forgotten Type of Abuse: Neglect,” visit: http://www.la-archdiocese.org/org/protecting/Pages/VIRTUS-Current-Online-Articles.aspx or call (213) 637-7508.
